At some point in the offseason,

a month or two before the spring training, someone at Baseball Prospectus brought up the notion that the Nats will feature three shortstops playing the infield on a regular basis (all at the same time), and the resulting defense upgrade would be “intriguing”. Very prescient. Defense has been sparkly so far. Keep it going!

How many runs came as the result of errors?

I thought it was mostly about bad pitching and bad hitting.

The bad D just completed the package.

Even though not all the runs were scored on errors, those kept

Stammen out there longer. It was like giving them 4-5 outs per inning.

Hey, at least we've got a day game tomorrow...

…our season is based on trying to win series. We realize that we are trying to leverage a flawed team into a winner.

Some takeaways so far….
1) When you don’t have strikeout pitchers, great defense and good luck are very key to encouraging the pitchers to either stay in the strike zone or avoid going further down the pipe. Tonight it seems that Stammen had to make more pitches in the zone due to a missed 3rd strike call, a bad Guzman play and errors.
2) We are a much, much better club defensively when Desmond is in the lineup. Ideally, it would be nice if we had a strikeout guy or a flyball guy for when Guzman needs to get his starts. I don’t have a problem with Guzman playing, I have a problem with him taking any at bats away from Desmond and with him batting outside of 7th in the order.
3) The Marlins are a good team. We’re not going to sweep everybody. Let’s focus on trying to get respect one series at a time. Last night was a giddy win, but we can do a lot by taking one tomorrow with Cool Hand on the mound.
4) Pudge is a candidate for the most irreplaceable guy on this team right now. Tell me your heart didn’t skip a beat when Pudge almost came out. We’ve shown we can compete some without Zim and his backups did a credible job. No Pudge would be a big, big problem given what we’d have to bring up from ’Cuse.

Uh...yeah...Let's gets that Calder Cup!!!!
