Looking at Willingham's numbers makes it even more puzzling why he's being benched today.

Riggles sounds like he has no regrets about pulling Olsen
We may need to start being more aggressive with starters, though. Olsen goes longer and you may have been able to swap out Walker for Bruney in the 8th.

Olsen reportedly apologized this morning for his "display of emotion" upon being pulled...

The godawful B-team offense
This is pathetic, totally pathetic. Putting Bernadina in there ain’t the option. If anybody is deserving of the occasional spot start at this point, it’s Alberto Gonzalez and he never gets it!
Uh...yeah...Let's gets that Calder Cup!!!!
bases loaded with no outs and they aren't going to score.
pathetic. people can complain all they want about the bullpen, but the ofense isn’t adequate, especially if one of the big three is out of the lineup. god forbid an injury to Zim, Hammer or Dunn.

Uh, we have sustained an injury to Zim and survived it for the most part. But they do have an issue with multiple out machines on the roster. We all know that Nieves ain’t really a major league catcher offensively. Taveras is an out machine. And RF is utterly awful. That’s a situation that’s got to be addressed and we’re just being cheap or stubborn about it.

i'm fairly happy they've scrapped the "Guz in the OF" experiment
but while he’s hot he should be playing a little more second. Kennedy, short of the HR last night, has been awful cold.

Guzman is AAAA guy I keep tellin' ya
He’s slow he can’t play short. He’s making 8 million is Riggs going to pay him that money next year to keep him? He is going to get traded …. oooops no one wants him too slow as we saw on the play at second.
Morse hits as well as Guzman, prolly better dude. He hits those extra bases and is faster.
I don't think he'll get traded, but he won't get signed this offseason.
Definitely not coming back next year.
Guzman's contract is over at the end of the year, I believe.
When does Morse have a stretch of 300 MLB at bats to justify a high degree of confidence?
Uh...yeah...Let's gets that Calder Cup!!!!
Guzman's contract is up, no one would consider a trade...
So he’s a bench player as he should be. Desmond’s clearly the better SS right now, though if he could combine Guzman’s eye with his power the Nats would have something…

Guzman's not really a bench player right now
He seems to be starting the majority of games somewhere each week.
Uh...yeah...Let's gets that Calder Cup!!!!
His OBP and OPS, his fielding doesn't warrant it.
Its all on Riggs fond memories like Batista (see Chicago Kerry Wood)
Listen for the most part, I agree with you
Anybody who follows these pages knows that I hate Guzman as much as anybody. I’d rather see Kennedy more. But right now he’s hitting about as well as Kennedy and he’s been overall decent.
Morse hasn’t gotten much of a shot in the majors because he is a horrible, horrible defender just about anywhere on the diamond and hasn’t shown enough power to cover up for his defense. Given our lack of options at RF he may deserve a shot, but I like the arguments for the TAWH/Maxwell platoon for this year until they make a trade or improve in the offseason.
Uh...yeah...Let's gets that Calder Cup!!!!
BJ Upton deal looked better to me.
Morse lacks confidence … not the physical skills. I think that time in Seattle as starting shortstop did something to his psyche fielding wise. He needs to get some confidence. He has the tools: speed, the arm.
There is no BJ Upton deal!
We have nothing the Rays want and they were only going to do that to unload salary if they fell behind the Yankees and BoSox.
Uh...yeah...Let's gets that Calder Cup!!!!

Just a few innings and I'll know whether to delete this game off my dvr or go ahead and watch the good parts.
Of course you need to watch the good parts!
Bernadina jacked one…the first of his major league career; then makes the spectacular catch. Stammen did some good things…and even better with his bat.

I would have given it to Stammen if he’d given 3R or less and 6IP with his 3RBI

Stammen was definitely impressive with the bat today, fortunately.
But that last inning was just painful….and could have been waaaaaay worse.

2) Morgan should have been yanked after that horrendous throw.
3) he won’t admit it, but the weather really messed with Stammen
4) Zim’s gotta lay off the outside pitch, or stop trying to pull it
5) Jose Reyes kept this game tied. No other reason.

Nope...not even close...Zim is not seeing the ball well or
something.
He gets the bat on top of the ball and hits it the SS for the third out…would have been a DP …heck maybe even a triple if there were that many outs left.
Zim! Not helpful!
lay off the outside pitch (hopefully?)

He’s enough a professional hitter there to work for the walk. Zim’s gotta deliver here. Your team’s been struggling. They need runs. You stranded a pile of runners yesterday. Keep hope alive Zim.
