Washington Nationals' Jason Marquis Likely To Have Surgery On Elbow.
According to several tweeted reports, Nats' right-hander Jason Marquis was not "pain-free" after a start for Class-A Potomac last night, as MLB.com's Bill Ladson wrote on Twitter (@washingnats), and now the 31-year-old pitcher who signed a 2-year/$15M dollar deal with Washington this winter is expected to have surgery and miss 8-10 weeks following, "...surgery to remove bone chips and spurs (from) his elbow."

Yes. I'm glad we waited a month to REALLY MAKE SURE that BONE CHIPS need SURGERY to fix.
I suppose it’s on Marquis for clinging to the hope he didn’t have to get a knife near his arm, but really. Now we’ll get what, like 2 or 3 starts out of him before the season ends (assuming he’s back to something more like league-average ability following rehab)?

Serioulsy, I can't believe they haven't tried lithotripsy....
What? It works for kidney stones. Why not for bone chips and fragments?
Heh.
What I REALLY want to know is who gave Marquis the pre-contract physical and gave him a clean bill of health. That’s who needs to do some ’splaining.
He had no injury history...
…and I doubt that the union is likely to allow teams to go willy nilly on MRIs that could devalue the worth of their players without cause. Believe that there might have been some discussion on this issue on Natsinsider by the way.
Uh...yeah...Let's gets that Calder Cup!!!!
Plenty of players try to rehab without surgery...
or get a second (or third ) opinion before agreeing to surgery. I agree with MissB below, the physician who cleared him for the contract signing is the one who needs to do some explaining.

What a waste of a signing...had such high hopes
that he would be a solid 4 era, 14-15 win pitcher for us
Ugh, nothing
I'm with you on this. Certainly had high hopes and I approved of the move.
I feel that this one is good process bad results. Thankfully, Luis Atilano (perhaps more deserving of a “Who?!” commercial than Wil Nieves), Pudge Rodriguez, and most importantly Livo may be good karma returning the lack of production from Marquis.
I am still hopeful that His Streak That Will Not Be Named pans out enough for those innings in August to be high leverage innings where he can make a real difference on the team. That will be a real battle royale for innings if Wang, Marquis, and Detweiler are all coming back at the same time while the present rotation proves to be servicable.
Paradoxically, Marquis’ surgery makes this team more legit if they hang above .500 until Strasburg emerges.
Uh...yeah...Let's gets that Calder Cup!!!!
