Washington Nationals: Brian Bruney needs to throw strikes
Washington Nationals relief pitcher Brian Bruney has had a miserable start to 2010. The problem is simple to evaluate - he's not throwing strikes. Bruney's strike to ball ratio is 1.25 compared to the league average 1.64. His walks per batters faced rate is currently 21.69% - more than twice the league rate of 9.32%. You can read the entire breakdown in my NatsStats blog here.

So that explains why he always loads the bases.

I knew it was the stupid defense letting him down!
More infield practice!

Dang - you guys are so smart
I spent all of that time looking at his pitching and I missed the obvious. Defensive conspiracy to make him look bad…
Relax, all right? Don't try to strike everybody out. Strikeouts are boring! Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.
seriously though, when bruney does screw it all up, it needs to be someone other than clippards job to close out the inning. clippard is good but hes proved that hes 1000% worse pitching from the stretch. i dont have stats to back it up but i think batista has been pretty effective on inherited runners
Agreed.
But we don’t have many bullpen guys who are good with inherited runners. You hope that Slaten will be a credible option. He had some good stretches pitching for the Diamondbacks from what I understand. It’s really hard for us to have a roster where we’re carrying both Batista and Bruney. Thankfully Bruney was competent last night. Unfortunately, I understand that Clippard warmed up pretty hard last night because the game got to 7-6. So it doesn’t totally count as a night off for Peaches.
Uh...yeah...Let's gets that Calder Cup!!!!
