Q: Would you rather get to the big leagues in two years as an outfielder or in three years as a catcher?

A: Whoever drafts me, whatever they want to do with me, I'll do. I love to catch. I've loved to catch my whole life. But playing in the outfield and being able to hit and play in every single game, that's a big difference. Anywhere I can help a club, I'll help them. Anywhere they need me or want to use me, I'll do whatever they want. I love to catch and love to play the outfield.

I've been thinking of going to Syracuse to see him

But I don’t know if I’ll manage it before he’s called up. Plus, Alliance Bank is such a small park. They’re probably sold out whenever Strasburg is pitching.

And they got rained out today.

That’s got to throw everything off. Must have been a major runup for tickets to tomorrow’s game where he’s pledged to pitch the 2nd game of a day-night doubleheader.

He will now experience the thrill of playing on 7 days rest.

This rainout will give the pundits all of the opportunity in the world to try to recalibrate the clock. it’s a little bit of a problem for us, but for the Syracuse folks it’s got to be a nightmare.

Apprently in Twit-land – they are saying it wont affect his potential call up…

from Kilgore:

The rainout in Rochester does nothing to affect Strasburgs debut date. He needed multiple days off, anyhow. I;d bank on June 4.

how does it affect his clock up here?

Because had they been counting on every 5 days it would have backed him up a date

Instead of pitching today on an extra day’s rest. He’s pitching tomorrow at 7 on two extra days rest.

Who we will get an up close and personal look at as he tries to save the O's season

He was hitting 7/23 for the O’s and making them love him. Then he saw Zach Greinke and struck out on 3 pitches. Corey will never realize that he’s not that good and needs to take pitches and live off of speed. The fact that he’s already hit a HR is the worst thing that could happen to him. We had him in AAA and brought him up for a cup of coffee last year too. Fugly, fugly player.

Good gosh

I think a lot of these kind of AAAA guys look at the Nats, see our awful outfield, and figure we’re always one injury away from them getting a callup. We’ve got Kevin Mench and Chris Duncan on this year’s roster.

Martis is pretty much off the prospect radar right now, although he’s still in the Syracuse rotation. Doubt they’ll move him to the bullpen yet while they are experimenting with sending Balester there.

Uh...yeah...Let's gets that Calder Cup!!!!

I was kind of surprised

when you guys cut Elijah Dukes. I know he had issues, but with all the concessions they made for him, I wasn’t expecting him to be cut so unceremoniously.

He was gawd-awful on defense when the Nats played the Yanks last year. So bad Corey Patterson was called up the next day to play CF. But Dukes’ stick looked to be better than Two-Pitch-At-Batterson’s.

I haven't read that Verducci article

But so far the Reds are managing Leake’s arm pretty well. He’s pitched deep into games, but he’s been efficient about it and hasn’t racked up a huge pitch count in any of them. We’ll see how things go by the end of the season, but so far, obviously, I have no complaints.

Please explain to me why you are trying to bunt with two outs Nyjer.

You are not in scoring position and you always get thrown out trying to steal. Perhaps a double or a triple would be a better idea. You just hit a line drive at someone and you might be able to do it again.

Those are some true idiots.

Charlie and Dave are truly irritated. Dave is properly explaining to the people just exactly how boneheaded Guzman’s play. “Even if Guzman breaks on contact and is cut in a rundown. You’d rather have 1st and 2nd with one out than have a runner on third with two outs.”

Remember the WBC kind of screwed up his spring that year and we tried to make him our closer, a role that he was utterly unprepared to handle between the ears. Crooked hat is okay, but we may come to regret the Hanrahan part of that deal in the long run. I wish nothing but success to him.

But the problem is that all of that offense is concentrated in a few spots.

No doubt.

That’s how the offense goes. In bunches. And the best hitters on the team are very streaky, so there will be down times.

thanks.

i know Harris is somewhat of a cult hero around here, but he’s barely replacement level. yes, he’s got a good glove (primarily in left), but hit his approach at the plate is either home run or walk at this point. he isn’t making contact and when he does, it’s usually pounding it into the ground toward the second baseman.

Wil's lucky he doesn't have options.

Because if this were about performance he’d be a Chief at this point and we’d give Maxwell a genuine shot at the platoon. Willie has too much history though with this club. Riggles values his veterans. He’s going to give Willie every chance to return to his mighty .682 OPS. And Willie’s going to keep thinking that he’s one at bat away. Yeah, but don't overstate the point

The expected runs drops, but only by a tenth of a run or so (1st/2nd 0 out). And in certain circumstances, it makes sense at the bottom of the order.

It’s not optimum, but it’s not as bad as some make it sound.

Time for every darn one of them to spend LOTS of time with Eckstein.
And practice proper baserunning.
And…and…how to get mojo back.

Turn out the lights the party’s over they say that all good things must end
Let’s call it a night the party’s over and tomorrow starts the same old thing again

What a crazy crazy party never seen so many people
Laughin’ dancin’ look at you you’re havin’ fun
But look at me I’m almost cryin’ but that don’t keep your love from dyin’
Misery cause for me the party’s over

Turn out the lights..

Hey, this is a little bit better than we thought we were.

But this is pretty crushing losing streak. Hopefully Storen will be available. We really need to 4-1 on this homestand if we are serious about making something of ourselves.

They have raised expectations to the point that these losing streaks actually mean something now

5 days ago we were in wildcard position. Now we have to take one from the Mets to avoid last place in the division.
