4. Adam Dunn, 1B
5. Josh Willingham, LF
6. Roger Bernadina, RF
7. Ian Desmond, SS

Nyjer back in the starting spot—he did manage to hit after his big misplay/blowup, so let’s cross our fingers and hope for the best.

Happy thoughts...happy thoughts
Right now, Christian Guzman is hot Christian Guzman and the BABIP is probably some otherworldly and ungodly number. I’m cool with this for now. Let’s hope Desmond has a good game offensively and can start reminding people the dangers of getting seduced by all those Guzman singles.

Saw a post on Nat'ls Review, I think about Guz...
…pointed out that when he’s hot, he’s HOT. It’s fair enough to play him during while he’s streaking and let Desi develop and learn to take pitches at the bottom of the order (like we were talking about yesterday).

Yep, yep.
He was slumping a couple of weeks ago, though and they still kept him in the two-spot. Would be nice if he kept this up long enough for us to either get some more offensive help for us to start praying for that great Guzman trade in the sky.

Some good news on the Strausburg front...
Rizzo wouldn’t rule out SS taking Olsen’s start May 29 at San Diego

He wouldn't rule it in either, though.
I think it’s really hard to envision them having him start on the road. Perhaps San Diego would trade us a right handed platoon partner for Bernadina if we give them Strasburg’s opener? I’m sure they could use some extra coin.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did start him in San Diego...
Arguing that they have to start him in DC is kind of saying they should base his debut solely on box office. To let him start on the road on the West coast would surely reduce the stress level, and in his hometown?

You think Mark Lerner getting hit in the head will allow the beancounters to approve say......$15-20mil of 2016 dollars for one early Strasburg start???

It's getting to the point...
…where it’s a percentage * 15-20M dollars. So it’s kind of like saying how much of a riverboat gambler do they want to be. There’s room for some expert journalist with more time and more salary than we to go after this kind of probability analysis to figure out what works best. The other thing in favor of that start would be that San Diego is a team that has been historically offensively challenged.
But I still doubt it.

No, hadn't read any serious articles claiming San Diego...
But in theory if the timing allows them to avoid the salary hit I’d think about it, otherwise no way they’re taking the extra hit $-wise…

I think they fly JD Martin out to SD, if Ladson's claim that Chico is out proves true...
btw, who is the emergency catcher?

Rumors are flying that it's Maldonado.
Who can’t hit in Syracuse let alone the big leagues. I think that he’s strong defensively, though.

Roscoe just retweeted this:
@RoscoeNats: RT @NotRizzo: Houston Radio says #Nats in “early, but serious” discussion re: Oswalt. Prospects mentioned are Detwiler, Thompson, Meyers …

Now that'll make Guz' contract look good by comparison...
…there was an article on fangraphs about his ridiculous contract just oday.

Oswalt to DC makes no sense to me...
Unless you want him to take Marquis’ innings, or actually think there’s a possibility of a playoff run, which I don’t really, and Oswalt said he wants to pitch for a contender…
And the names mentioned, Det, Aaron “I was traded for Nick Johnson” Thompson and Brad Meyers? I’d rather keep them, thanks….

Houston doesn't want to kick it in any salary.
So they aren’t going to get but so good prospects in return. Brad Meyers projects as a 3 starter at best. Thompson is getting hit hard in AA at present. Detwiler is risky because of his mechanics. He could be a 2 or he could be a bust. It’s bad value so I don’t think that they will do it, but like the Texeira and Chapman rodeos before them they may want to talk to see just what’s involved and drive up the market further if the desperate Mets decide to enter the sweepstakes.
After the Texeira and Chapman escapades, though, I don’t find it much fun talking about stuff like this sometimes. We never seem to get our man unless we overpay and nobody else wants him.
Don’t support trading for Oswald regardless.

Good look on this.
Either it’s a salary dump and you don’t get Detwiler for this kind of deal or you kick in some salary to make this more manageable. I don’t want any deal where we risk being compared with the Chicago White Sox and the Jake Peavy trade, though.
