Reflections on Saturday Meetup and Weekend Thoughts

Federal Baseball had its first meetup of the year for Saturday's game against the O's. 5 of us were in attendance including our fearless leader, Patrick. It was kind of a last minute thing, and all things considering I was pretty happy that it wasn't just me staring forlornly into some suds in the Red Loft/Red Porch dreading an invasion of Orioles fans. Facing a potentially demoralizing time in the season by losing a series to the hated trash Orioles, it was great to down a brew and match some names to faces.

I'm left with even greater respect for Patrick's efforts on the site. Commuting, consistent posting, and getting us more original content such as the Drew Storen interview require herculean amounts of time and dedication. Glad to get a better sense of how committed he is and why he does what he does.

Props go to RobBob for texting me to realize that I'd mistaken the location I'd texted when I was downstairs wondering what was going on.

Most importantly, I was energized by the cool people who hang out on this site. Sometimes I can get trapped in my thread snarkiness and there were "happy thoughts" being around positive people. Got some good ideas for some future books to read, a sense that we have real human beings with deep relationships with the game and their families, and a chance to share some stuff on music and how they became baseball fans. Plus you get little tidbits like the mighty Phil Wood plays guitar and stuff like that.

I believe that our team was similarly inspired over the weekend. The comeback win and resiliency after the Nyjer gaffe showed me how different this team is than last year. And I was glad to have a friendly voice at the Red Loft to make sure I didn't throw something through my computer at the darkest moments.

Anyways, I'm very encouraged by everybody on the site and would like to encourage those who went to offer some feedback, and those who didn't to offer some thoughts on how we can make things work better logistically for the next time we try something.

In the end, well over 20 of us expressed interest and with better planning we can pull off something even better next time out.

For today, happy thoughts and GO NATS!!!
