Nats' Assistant GM Bob Boone on Sirius/XM MLB Network's "Power Alley" Talking Jordan Zimmerman and Chien-Ming Wang:
"Both of them are coming [along] great. Jordan Zimmermann, in particular, is way ahead of schedule, we’re actually slowing him down a little bit. But, we're not planning on really having him involved a lot this year. He should be out by the end of July, 1st of August...He's throwing terrific, the scary part of that is coming off [elbow reconstruction]...when he's pitching it's like, 'Boy, he's back!', but you don't want to have a setback...""[Chien-Ming] Wang is doing well from my reports. I have not seen him, I talked to our head trainer the other day in the minor leagues and he said he's feeling really good, so, we're just keeping our fingers crossed."
"We take a pretty conservative approach, especially with the pitching, so, they're going to be when they're ready, but it's looks like they are going to be ready and that's the big thing."

Detwiler has had two rehab starts so far
one for Potomac and one for Harrisburg. he’ll probably take his full 30 days on his rehab assignment—it’s essentially his spring training.

Detwiler has already started rehabbing.
He put together a solid 3IP start at Potomac and pitched for Harrisburg last night. I believe he has 30 days to rehab (extra spot on minor league roster) and then they have to decide whether to option him down or promote him to the majors. Got to believe he’ll be a better option than Atilano or Martin by that point.
Souldrummer stands alone for Miguel Batista. Many want to see Capps save games. Dream big! MOAR RUNZ!!! MOAR BATISTA!!!!
rotation for next year- best in majors?
1.Strasburg
2.Zimmerman
3.Oswalt/lee (got in a trade)
4.Hernandez
5.Wang
Clippard as setupman, Storen closing.
That rotation would be amazing next year, assuming we could get oswalt/lee in a trade.

Wouldn't count on (or count out) a trade for Oswalt/Lee, but a healthy Marquis...
…who is under contract for next season too, could make a passable addition to that rotation, and I agree, it might not inspire awe around the league when the season starts, but a few months in the league will know the Nats are no joke.

I like the optimism, but this might be a touch too optimistic...
If Wang and Zimmermann come back and get it together, I could see this happening, but Livan will be another year older and might not be able to keep it up.
That said, I would love to see this rotation.
Sub Detwiler in for that Oswalt/Lee spot and you've got something there.
Plus don’t forget about Lannan. I realize RobBob will not give me a beatdown but I’m not giving up on Cool Hand as a 5th starter.

I think Lannan's suffering the consequences of being the one solid starter the last couple years...
He had a lot on his shoulders the last two seasons, and I’m not surprised he’s showing some signs of fatigue. Not giving up on him at all, but the missed start and the poor showings so far have me concerned for sure.

Alert but not alarmed
I actually wonder if Lannan does get some form back that he might be a very good trade commodity. Even though that would be against Rizzo’s ethos of loving sinker throwing pitchers.
Ian Desmond is my hero!
LEFT HANDED sinker throwing groundballers.....
How about we just beef up the defence some more and see if that helps Lannan and the others…….

Hmm.
How about if we don’t let Lannan pitch anymore.
Defense isn’t causing him troubles, it’s grapefruits in the middle of the strike zone that are causing him troubles.
His line drive percentage is over 20% right now. That’s bad — he’s in the Craig Stammen territory (and look what happened to him). His GB/FB ratio has declined the last few years, and he’s giving up more walks than strikeouts. I like the kid, he’s been the best pitcher on a very bad rotation the last few years, but that’s over. The Nats need to move beyond simply putting warm bodies out there.

wow..........no extra credit for the shaving cream pies, even?.......Great in the clubhouse? Goes about his business?
on an unrelated note…. comment at Beyond the Boxscore on the 3-4-5 hitters….
" just chiming in days late to say that I’ve absolutely loved the middle of the Nats’ lineup. Zimmerman is pretty much the best 3B in the business, Adam Dunn is hard not to love, and Josh Willingham is just kind of a big FU to Jeffrey Loria."
Frank University?……….must be some kind of school cheer….

I admit he isnt pitching well
But there is nothing to suggest he cant be an effective pitcher again. I mean – if he is in a funk… why not see if he comes good? We wouldnt DFA a batter who had a bad month?
But as for long term – his position might be in doubt.
Ian Desmond is my hero!
Fun part about it all is
that my opinion doesn’t matter one iota. Lannan, like Livan before him, has friends in high places and the Nats will continue to let him pitch despite my protestations.
I still don’t think I was wrong about Livan, but I’m not talking as loudly about it nowadays. I may be wrong about Lannan. Be sure to remind me if this turns out to be the case.
BTW, should I know who is depicted in your new avatar?

Nope.
I’m a DC slate guy. The Hershey Bears, Caps minor league team, was playing for a championship today so I switched out Miguel Batista for Mathieu Perreaulx (probably mucked up spelling) who is one of their top centermen and a guy that I hope makes the Caps. I was posting some in the Bears Gamethread over at Japers’ and wanted something more hockey related.
I haven’t decided whether I’ll switch it back to Batista or not. Looks like Lannan could use some support.

I could see Olsen in the rotation next year
Over either Livo or Lannan. He’s hurt now, but his stuff is better than either of theirs.
Aim for the head baby Jesus
Hire Livo for the Staff ..
he would make a great coach and mentor !

I would love to see Storen be the closer
He was a closer in college and since being called up he has been phenomenal. He also has been very good in tough situations and very good under pressure.
I'm pretty sure that's the plan.
He was groomed as closer and that’s probably where he’ll be in the near future.

I saw that.
I’m watching the Bears game. Did the Chief get in the contest? Sad to see the Larussa’s are blowing Seattle out of the water.

It's because of interleague
Because there are no rematches, the common off day is a way of allowing makeup games if one of the IL games is rained out.
