Desmond getting a second "mental health day" today.

Riggles is going with the hot hand (ignoring that he was 0-3 w/3K the day before going 4-4…. which version of Gonzo do you think we get tonight?)

I think we get a decent one.

Better defense and a single in a low leverage situation. Gonzo’s not really the answer long term. Hopefully, Desmond will get a chance to play tomorrow and will be ready. If Gonzo continues to stay hot, put him at 2nd after tonight.

Wouldn't mind Gonzo at 2B at all--if he stays hot.

The career 72 OPS+ argues against it, but not like AK is any better (his 2010 OPS+? 72!).

What’s the scoop on JD Martin? Jurrjens hasn’t pitched in a long ass time, and he got lit up in AAA rehab.

He's a pitch-to-contact guy. We cross our fingers and hope for ground balls.

Had a few good outings this season, was up for a while last season. He’s generally hittable.

Stammen surprised the hell out of me last night. Jurrjens hasn’t been right since his shoulder tweak in Spring Training. I would shut down him and Heyward until after the ASB. Another start by Kawakami won’t kill us.

Kawakami gets no run support, and has pitched better than Hanson and Lowe.

Jurrjens was awful in his three rehab starts, I don’t know why they’re rushing him up.

When is Jordan Zimmerman expected back?

His only slight plus pitch is a curve.

by bluelineswinger on Jun 30, 2010 7:33 PM EDT up reply actions

All we got back for Nick Johnson was Aaron Thompson, right?

Thompson’s been real weird at AA. Started out great. Fell off the map. Been ok lately. Last outing was very strange 6K, 6BB, 0H, 0R in 6IP I think.

On a desperate search for Sunshine at Nats Park.

by souldrummer on Jun 30, 2010 7:34 PM EDT up reply actions

Thompson has certainly been a bit of a disappointment

I (and I’m sure the Nats) was hoping that he’d get off to a decent start and progress to AAA quickly. He was solid at the AA level last year, and seems to have regressed a bit. I didn’t expect much for Johnson, so my thinking is still that they didn’t do poorly in the deal. They got a maybe for a guy who was slightly above average, extremely injury prone, and gone in three months regardless.

by bluelineswinger on Jun 30, 2010 7:37 PM EDT up reply actions

It's going to be tough to justify promoting him to AAA

I think he’s had 3 straight decent starts now, but he has a long way to go to regain trust.

Shocked that there are 6 all-stars for Harrisburg. Espinosa, Marrero, Solano, Martinez, Martin, and Milone. I guess a large amount of it is that they are hosting it and they want to make sure the Harrisburg folk show up.

I think Martin could be a contributer in the pen though at some point. Martinez is old. Solano doesn’t really have enough bat for me. Milone is low ceiling. Continue to pray for Marrero and hope that both he and Espinosa do enough to justify starting off at AAA next year.

On a desperate search for Sunshine at Nats Park.

by souldrummer on Jun 30, 2010 7:40 PM EDT up reply actions

I'm saying that last year

The battle cry around here every time that Johnson got a hit (pre-trade) was DNTNJ from Ed.

I was supportive of dealing him, and was going to be sorely disappointed if they didn’t before the deadline. I both think that the Nats will trade Dunn and would like them to do so (if they can get good value for him)

by bluelineswinger on Jun 30, 2010 7:34 PM EDT up reply actions

Getting anything for NJ was a positive.

He defied his injury until just after the trade. We got something for him and he has brought his injury bug to the Yanks.
