Sorry for no new post this afternoon...

Busy day and spent last night working on trade deadline article for SBNation.com which will go up tomorrow…

Listening to Mets radio to see what they’re saying today…

See ya at 7:00pm EST….

Vivian Jaffe: "Have you ever transcended space and time?"
Albert Markovski: "Yes. No. Uh, time, not space... No, I don't know what you're talking about."

by Patrick Reddington on Jul 1, 2010 3:29 PM EDT reply actions

That's ok, man.

You going to be around this weekend?

On a desperate search for Sunshine at Nats Park.

Can only make it down for Sat/Sunday...

Don’t want to miss a Stras start…

Vivian Jaffe: "Have you ever transcended space and time?"

Cool.

I’ll be in line on Saturday in all likelihood and there’s a good chance I’ll make it Sunday as well. Last time I went to the park on a Thursday Mets game, I missed the grandstands, bought a ticket for more cash, and then watched the Nats get clobbered. I am hesitant to repeat that experience and will try to bring sunshine from home rather than clouds at the park.

Read yesterday that Cleveland is willing to move Austin Kearns!!!

The Nats could have 2 AKs….that would fix everything!
hahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Sorry, couldn’t help myself.

Thank you.

Cannot stand Kearns. Cannot have Kearns. No way. I don’t even see him around MLB traderumors as being a person of interest for most of the contenders.

But think about the K line...

Dunn-K-K_K
Adam-K_K-K
Austin-K-K-K
Instead of posting the strikeouts the Nats’ pitchers get, we could post a K-line for all the strikeouts that group would make.
Turn ALL the opposing pitchers into Cy Youngs!
The possibilities!

Kearns only hits when he plays his home games in the state of Ohio

He’s got one of those shopping cart chips that activate once he leaves the boundaries of the parking lot. He is genetically incapable of hitting once he plays for a team not based in Ohio.

Good luck today

Vegas has the Mets as 55.95% favorites and my simulator has the Nationals actually favored with a win probability of 52.09%. Thus the big bet gets placed on the Nationals today.

Here is my skinny for the game: Santana is no longer a dominate pitcher and is riding an unsustainable (away from home) xFIP. Hernandez has also been lucky this year. Mets are way over priced in this game, take the Nationals at home.

Screech's Godson

by grizzy on Jul 1, 2010 7:28 PM EDT up reply actions

Hammer's been pretty consisten 25HR/90RBI guy.

Florida is not that easy a place to hit. It’s possible he’s matured and his eye has improved. I like Hammer and don’t want to trade him really while he’s under team control for next year. Trade Dunn and you’ve got 12M dollars to play with to replace the wins you are losing.

Olney said 4yr/48M is what he thinks it would take to resign Dunn. That is a frightening figure.

It's not a first for first game.

You can live with Marrero at 1st potentially if you have power arms to make your pitching scary. It’s like is Dunn better than Joel Pineiro. It’s not just first for first. I think credible 1st base play is easier to obtain outside of the organization than the power arms.

You hope that some of the prospects will make progress to address these issues.

When Harper signs he’s ahead of Burgess on day 1, sadly. But between the two of them you may have a RF being developed internally. 2B we may be able to develop something internally by 2012 if Espinosa progresses. Offensively if we can just minimize the outmachines we can be okay. We just need credible hitters at 2B and CF and we’ll make improvment. It’s the lack of power arms in the rotation that’s a greater concern for me.

We’ll never know what would have happened had Bowden been fired after the first 100+ long season rather than bumbled into resigning after the 2nd. We’ll also never know would have happened had the Nationals proven capable of drafting even 1 blue chip prospect while he was here. I still think it had something to do with the ability to sign free agents

I can’t help but think that Dukes’ presence may have helped Teixeira to decide against signing here a couple years ago. And other FAs may have been deterred by having Dukes in the locker room. You can’t discount that part of the equation.

I read a few comments

about how some of the other players were never able to completely feel comfortable around him. And from working with a direct supervisor who I’m convinced was on steroids and/or some type of stimulants, I can tell you that it takes a mental toll to deal with those types of individuals. Not saying that Dukes was on anything but all the other guys knew about his past in Tampa (domestic issues et al.). It had to be in the back of their minds. Would he ever flip out in D.C.? He was well-behaved (for the most part) but there’s always that uncertainty when you had the extreme behavior in the past.

It's all about the right deal.

I think they hold Semin and keep that move as a potential changeup option midseason once they learn how the modified roster responds. Doesn’t make sense to trade him when his value is low by his poor playoff performance. Does make sense to trade Hot Halak after an out of body playoffs.

On a desperate search for Sunshine at Nats Park.

by souldrummer on Jul 1, 2010 9:17 PM EDT up reply actions

totally agree.

semin frustrates the crap out of me but the good outweighs the bad with him. in order to have the 40 goals we must go through the “nights off” and lazy penalties. i think losing him would hurt. there are nights were he is our best player. souldrummer will confirm this.

by rachel216 on Jul 1, 2010 9:14 PM EDT up reply actions

Ultimately, I don't see how they can afford him...

…and he doesn’t seem to be a part of their core. He deserves a shot to win a Cup in DC with Ovie if he can show progress during the first half of next year. Otherwise, you have to consider addressing the grit and penalty killing issues of the Caps by finding a trade partner desperate for offense.

On a desperate search for Sunshine at Nats Park.

by souldrummer on Jul 1, 2010 9:18 PM EDT up reply actions

very true.

after all offense isn’t really our problem. but strangely enough, it was the problem during the playoffs. thing is people say he isn’t a playoff player. he SUCKED, and i mean sucked during this year’s playoffs, he was basically MIA, but the year before that he was basically our only offense.

by rachel216 on Jul 1, 2010 9:22 PM EDT up reply actions

The problem was the power play...

…Fleischmann, and the lack of grit on the backline in my opinion. Power play and Flash were bigger issues for me. But Semin and Green came up rather small.

I don't have but so big a problem with Kennedy for Dunn.

It was the Gonzo pinch hit instead of Bernadina that was tough for me. We burned a position player by doing that and Bernadina is probably a better option. It’s not all about platoon splits every time.
