Game 93: Another ugly loss
- Struggling: J.D. Martin (-27.7%) has an uncharacteristic 3 BBs, giving up 6 ER in 5.1 IP--including a pair of dingers in the 6th.
- Rally-slayer: Ivan Rodriguez (-8.4%) has two inning-ending GDPs tonight, and bouncing a single off of the second-base ump doesn't outweigh that.
- This is meaty? The 3-4-5 spots go 1-7 with 5 BBs and a collective +2.4% WPA.
- Or is this meaty? The 1-2 spots are 1-8, but have the Nats' only 2 RBI tonight (-6.1% for the both).

Here it is:
@washingnats: The #Nats have optioned OF Justin Maxwell and recalled RHP Luis Atilano.
Vivian Jaffe: "Have you ever transcended space and time?"
Albert Markovski: "Yes. No. Uh, time, not space... No, I don't know what you're talking about."

what a waste...
by all means, let’s keep Willie Harris on this team. because what this team needs is a third left-handed slap-hitter whose best position is center field and who is batting .177/.278/.331.

But he's making 1.5M dollars!
He’s got to be decent! I’m not going to get mad about Willie Harris playing because I have better places to expend energy in my life. I’m hoping Desmond gets some credit for his better defense tonight. Middle of the order showed some improvement by at least getting on base. Outside of that, the usual flawed suspects making the usual flawed mistakes. Probably going to put a fanpost or fanshot of this at some point, but you should check out the analysis of the 2013 Nats at Behind the Boxscore/John Sickels here.
Goes through the whole team position by position and excludes all players not under team control for 2013. Basically, it’s a great way of seeing what the team would like after a 2 year extension for Dunn and assuming Willingham walks. Not a pretty picture and there’s a lot of wishing and hoping there. Trades ...
Patrick,
You, of course, must realize that at this point, seeing that Ryan Zimmerman made the top 10 in trade value on Dave Cameron’s fangraph’s article, he might make sense to trade if they could get 3 rated A-B+ AAA/AA power pitching prospects? Or one pitcher two position players? I’m not suggesting they do it … but wouldn’t Rizzo have to consider this given the situation he finds himself in?
Truth is better than fiction and that’s a hard truth but certainly valid.
The fans would come out with pitchforks and torches...
and would then stop caring about the team. I don’t think we can continually make moves for two years from now.

Frankly...
…we should take this logic to its conclusion and join Steve Phillips in the Trade Strasburg lobby.

I think I would give up baseball if this happened.
