"If, sometime shortly after 7:05 p.m., you feel something ranging from a slight tremor to a collision of celestial bodies, it's because the most hyped matchup in baseball this year is finally here: Stephen Strasburg is all set to face Jason Heyward."
• Talking Chop - mvhsbball - "Braves at Nationals Series Preview - Strasburg Meets Heyward"
"The Braves and Nationals will start a 3-game series in Washington DC tonight, and that means two things: Rob Dibble, and the decent chance that the Braves will struggle. Fortunately for us, there's a mute button to deal with Dibble and his ridiculous commentating. The other half isn't so easy to fix though."
• Washington Post - Dave Sheinin - "Stephen Strasburg's competitiveness sets him apart"
"The moment was easy to miss -- so easy, in fact, that half the teammates and coaches in Stephen Strasburg's own dugout missed it. But Steve McCatty saw the whole thing. As Strasburg stalked off the mound following the top of the third inning against the San Francisco Giants on July 9, McCatty..."

Ahh....
It’ll be so nice to get back to the park after a 16-day hiatus. Well, not really that long: I did catch a P-Nats game in the interim, so that helped. But that’s kind of like methadone. I want the good stuff!

There is only one Hammerin' Hank
I remember watching him hit #715 when i was a kid.
That said – that’s like saying “there’s only one Lefty” (Lefty Grove? Lefty Gomez? You get the idea). So take no offense to The Hammer’s nickname, just marvel at his walkoff magic :-)
Well....
you make a valid point, I guess! :-)

As luck would have it, I only have tickets for one game this series.
Tomorrow night.
At least we get to watch the anti-Stras pitch :-)
Mike Morse
Has 12 hits in his last 24 at bats, is hitting .349 on the year, and hasn’t committed a fielding error since 2005. How about Bernie in center, Morse in right, Morgan on the bench.

Mike Morse is bad in the outfield
I watched him play such bad defense in Seattle that he actually injured himself doing it. Maybe he’s a different guy now…but I doubt it.
You know who’s better at defense? Ryan Langerhans.
Just sayin’.
I forgot to mention
That before the play on which he hurt himself, I was so disgusted with his defense I was actually thinking, “Maybe he’ll just get hurt and I won’t have to watch his antics out there any more.” Literally on the next ball he tried to field, he dove and injured himself.
It still haunts me.

Here are the things the team should demand in a Strasburg deal
1. A cure for all forms of cancer.
2. The ability to turn any substance into Gold.
3. A portal to a planet filled with gullible virgin cheerleader swimsuit models and a case of Jager.
Short of that, NO DEAL.

I’ve never tried it myself. Scared.
Honestly ya it does, but I’m thinking Stras for the long run and although I may be a little drunk now stras is worth WAY more then alcohol (although those damn cheerleaders make it tempting)
"Ovechkin is as subtle as a shot of vodka."
This is an "and" situation
They need the cancer cure, Midas touch AND the cheerleader planet portal.
The Jager is really just a throw-in. The cheerleaders will drink wine coolers, sangria, whatever.
How dare you...

Wow ... just wow ...
Do you think that the Braves haven’t slowed their bats down to Batista speed yet?
Frankly, I don’t know why you announce who’s starting regardless.
"Don't mind WM...he's an all-around jerk."
Official lineup has to be turned in, you don't have to announce it til then I don't think...

And it has to be turned in what, 5 minutes before game time?
"Inconceivable!"
"You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."
-The Princess Bride
I gotcha. So as swim says, it’s based entirely on an assumed rotation?
"Don't mind WM...he's an all-around jerk."
Or a courtesy announcement
"Inconceivable!"
"You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."
-The Princess Bride
So there’s nothing other than routine and tradition that dictates having a standard 5 man rotation?
Why wouldn’t a team run, say, a 6 man rotation with the manager picking a different starter every day?
"Don't mind WM...he's an all-around jerk."
Not even that.
It’s theoretically possible to go with a 1 or 2 man rotation. Not kidding. Just don’t expect them to be throwing even 80mph fastballs every other day.
"Inconceivable!"
"You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."
-The Princess Bride
I mean, I get that, but what’s to stop the Yankees from running an 8 man “rotation” with all star starters and you have to guess which one is starting and if you don’t start, you might hit the game as a reliever? Just the comfort of confined roles?
"Don't mind WM...he's an all-around jerk."
I guess I’ll have to watch for a while. I don’t get yet why throwing is so hard depending on the inning you do it in. I get starting vs relieving – you expect the starter to go further.
"Don't mind WM...he's an all-around jerk."
yea, but relievers go more often, and their arms are conditioned to do so
Aim for the head baby Jesus
I know that, I’m just trying to grasp the finer mechanics. I guess that’s just the modern system, but I don’t know why you just don’t train each pitcher to go ~65 pitches a game and then out. If you use 3 pitchers a game, you use 3 pitchers a game, but don’t you carry 12 of them anyway?
"Don't mind WM...he's an all-around jerk."
Tricky mindset switch from starter to reliever.
You’d have to at least tell the pitchers a few days in advance, even if you don’t announce it.

Ya lefty’s are in high demand haha. I started in college because i was tired of swimming but have fell in love. Another sport that could really grow big if it was watched more. An amazingly competitive sport
"Ovechkin is as subtle as a shot of vodka."
Yeah I play for UVA club too
I got a look or two in high school, but ultimately 5’6" kids don’t get legit D1 looks
Sunshine will come to Nats Park, I promise.
No way. Message me because JMU does not get D1 Looks and you being at UVA means we most likly have met

We have, I'm that short Asian lefty that scored like 5 goals against y'all last season at your tourney

Haha sounds awesome. I love the tourney’s that we have. I may not be the best at Polo but you have to admit JMU has fun with all of it
"Ovechkin is as subtle as a shot of vodka."
Naw it's cool
And as much as our coach hates your school, at least you’re better than Loyola
Sunshine will come to Nats Park, I promise.
Haha. i can picture that exactlty and sounds awesome. This years tourney party has a good chance of being at my apt so im looking forward to meeting you man. Not having money for a coach is hard

Yeah definitely
See you then, and what a freaking coincidence to see you on these parts (I’m new here after deserting my hometown Gaslamp Ball, very disamicable split)

thats great I’m new to these parts as well and was really never a baseball fan before this site
"Ovechkin is as subtle as a shot of vodka."
Y'all have a decent baseball team, too
I’m a beat for UVA baseball and follow college baseball especially around these parts, and I’ll tell you that your team is pretty good now. Last season brought high hopes but injuries derailed your season. If you have the time, they’re a team worth supporting
Sunshine will come to Nats Park, I promise.
So if I got in shape, being a 6’2" righty might have a future for me in Water Polo?

Water Polo will get you into shape
It’s called Hell Week before the season starts. Our high school hell week makes people near die, it’s hard… And 6’2" is a good height, although water is a great equalizer and it’s more about strength
Sunshine will come to Nats Park, I promise.
Well, I doubt a club will take me at 24 and out of shape just to train me into becoming a water poloer. But I’d be interested. I’ve watched from a glance, and I was a decent swimmer before I let myself go.

Best month of the year for me??? October. Baseball playoffs and plenty of football.
