LIVO...LIVO...LIVO!!!!
(please let this be an “off” night for Hudson and an "on " night for Livo)
Not excited or happy to see the Flirting-with-the-Mendoza-Line Willie Harris in the lineup, though.
Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes. Oscar Wilde
I hate Colin Cowherd
but 80% of his audience just said they would have stayed at last nights game, he of course said he would have left.
Aim for the head baby Jesus
UVA people are Zuma-drinker blah blah blah
Hated him since
Sunshine will come to Nats Park, I promise.
I've never said that about UVA people
I may have once called them preppy rich kids from NoVa who drink heavily to get over the fact that they didn’t get into an Ivy League school. But that was mostly in jest.
Aim for the head baby Jesus
No Cowherd said that when a caller brought up UVA football

Well it was mostly true of the UVA people I knew at the time,
plus I was going to Tech then, so making fun of UVA was a sport.
Aim for the head baby Jesus
Eh I can't blame you...
UVa-Tech has little importance to me either, I went to USC-UCLA last year
Sunshine will come to Nats Park, I promise.
It used to be a real rivalry
but then UVA just fell off the map. They had a long string of GREAT running backs that would just kill VT.
Aim for the head baby Jesus
Tell me about it
I’m doing a little research for something I’m writing and it’s amazing who we used to pull, including Barber and Jones, etc.
Sunshine will come to Nats Park, I promise.
Although I will say that I'm a Trojan through and through
And I’m ready to get ready to whoop some Wahoo ass
Sunshine will come to Nats Park, I promise.
It's all gravy.. Lol.
“UVA football is the softest bunch of creampuffs bow-tie wearin’, bree-cheese eatin, wussies i’ve ever seen in my life.” LMAO HARSH!!! “Those guys wear makeup to games.” – Colin Cowherd.

The hot dog preview pic for the youtube clip ties it all together...
Haha hysterical, and somewhat true
Sunshine will come to Nats Park, I promise.
Wow, another game starting Willie Harris.....
and with Mike Morris riding the bench. Way to go Riggleman. Keep playing your less than best players.
Wouldn't completely cross the Tigers off of the shopping list
But they just picked up Jhonny Peralta from the Indians for a 19-year-old starter in A ball

Add the Giants and Padres to the list... Rockies and Braves possible interest as well
Think the ideal fit is still an AL team.
by bluelineswinger on Jul 28, 2010 7:48 PM EDT up reply actions
I'd think the Padres wouldn't be interested
They already have Jerry Hairston filling a similar role
Sunshine will come to Nats Park, I promise.
Adam Dunn >> Jerry Hairston
But man would it be scary to see him tracking balls in the outfield at Petco
by bluelineswinger on Jul 28, 2010 7:56 PM EDT up reply actions
From what I've heard
The Giants and Padres would be more interested in Willingham. He’s less of a liability defensively
by bluelineswinger on Jul 28, 2010 7:57 PM EDT up reply actions
Rays are really interested in Willingham too b/c of club control
And because he hits their GTMI modus operandi better, apparently.
Sunshine will come to Nats Park, I promise.

My offense is loaded too, I totally heisted on some trades
For example (not to be overly TMI or anything), got Dunn and McGehee for slumping Aaron Hill (have Kelly Johnson and traded earlier for Prado), Brad Hawpe (have Hamilton, Pence, Quentin), Starlin Castro (have Hanley and Escobar), and John Lackey (got off waivers). Total heist, and that was constant theme,
I’m so lucky, haha!

Who knows hockey???
Is this a good trade for the Caps?
The Caps added some toughness to their lineup this afternoon, acquiring rugged right wing D.J. King from St. Louis in exchange for prospect Stefan Della Rovere.
The Caps have yet to confirm the deal.
The 26-year-old King signed a two-year extension with the Blues prior to being traded.
King, who played only 12 games with the Blues last season because of injury, will be the Caps’ first enforcer since veteran tough guy Donald Brashear departed the organization via free agency last summer. In those 12 games, he fought five times
Like to think I know hockey.... and I live in St. Louis, so I'm familiar with King
One dimensional goon. Most of you guys probably know more about Della Rovere, who I’m not real familiar with. Assuming he was traded straight up for DJ King, I wouldn’t think he’s all that spectacular.
by bluelineswinger on Jul 28, 2010 8:23 PM EDT up reply actions
On the fly research says Rovere was a seventh rounder a couple of years ago
Who most are projecting as a third or fourth line type down the road.
Thoughts on trade…. shrug
King brings a physical presence to the ice and could help protect some of the Caps’ skill players, but that’s about it. Don’t think he really has any offensive upside to go with it.
by bluelineswinger on Jul 28, 2010 8:25 PM EDT up reply actions
Japers' Rink folk will probably think of Della Rovere as offering more than that.
By that I mean Della Rovere could become a more affordable version of the Bradley grinder type with better fighting skill down the road.
On a desperate search for Sunshine at Nats Park.
Della Rovere is a tough player...
…who was kind of fighter with some skill in the minors. He wasn’t even in Hershey yet, though. So maybe they feel that they want to toughen up their team this year and forfeit some upside. Japers’ Rink will speculate on this one quite a bit because Stefan Della Rovere was a real favorite for those in Caps nation who follow the minors because he was one of the few prospects with toughness first. No tears were shed when Oskar Osala was included in the Joe Corvo trade. Many will be shed over this one, but like the Chris Clark for Jason Chimera trade, many will trust GMGM to make the right decision.
On a desperate search for Sunshine at Nats Park.
It depends on your evaluation of Della Rovere's future.
Some people don’t think he’ll ever make it to the NHL, some do. King isn’t likely to play much for the caps but will probably sit in the press box most nights and only play if there are injuries or if the other team is loaded with goons.
Aim for the head baby Jesus
I'd suggest reading the Japer's Rink thread
Alot of them are very familiar with Della Rovere
Aim for the head baby Jesus
You asked RIGHT AFTER I had to go to the grocery store.
But anyway, I like it, from the standpoint of GMGM improved the age and salary cap hit of our fourth liners, and gave up a guy who (reportedly) the team was thinking had peaked. Even if he hasn’t, he’s projected at highest to be a 3rd liner, probably 4th, if he makes the show at all.
"Don't mind WM...he's an all-around jerk."
Thanks for the insight.
Hockey salary cap is confusing to me. Understanding the back line and overall synergy of a hockey roster is tough for me. And I don’t know but so many guys outside of the Caps.
On a desperate search for Sunshine at Nats Park.
My thoughts, grain of salt, are basically – you don’t want more than a combined 3-4 million on your fourth line, and this guy’s signed for ~625k over the next 3 years, and he’s younger than the fourth line we have. You can now afford to dress him fourth line, left wing, with either Steckel or Gordon at center and Bradley at right. More than likely unless a move is made, he’s a press box fixture, but even then, his contract isn’t that bad. He’s an enforcer with some mild amount of skill, so that’s good, and he has the right attitude from the interviews I’ve seen.

I don't think Willingham is stealing at bats from anyone tonight.
You have to sit Willingham sometimes because there’s concern about his back and they view as a 550AB guy. The problem is that there isn’t really a quality left handed pinch hitter instead of Willie Harris. Willie Harris is a utility guy on a team that doesn’t need that much utility.

He’s going to be loyal to Nyjer because Nyjer’s a veteran whose paid some dues (and helped him get hired). He’s going to be loyal to Willie Harris because not playing him at all could kill the man’s career after he’s paid some dues for the organization. I don’t really have a problem with them playing Willie Harris tonight. There are some roster holes that Rizzo has to close before I’m willing to blame everything on Riggleman. Over the next two-three years we'll really know more about this.
Nolan Ryan is radically changing the way his pitchers are trained for the Rangers. If that system leads to greater durability and more innings by his better pitchers that could really turn the tide against some of the coddling that’s gone on in recent years. For me, the relievers are too coddled. Recently read Bill James Historical Abstract and that seems to suggest that mid-inning pitcher platoon changes accomplish less than they should. Just get some relievers who can pitch to both lefties and righties.

Truth.
You can then start working on batting platoon advantages and greater specialization amongst position players. JMax is praying every day that something like that happens. If right handed platoon players were to have some value, he’d have a better shot at surviving as a big leaguer.
On a desperate search for Sunshine at Nats Park.
I agree about the relievers.
I hear all the time….“He pitched 1 inning two nights in a row, he could use the rest.” I’m not really an expert but is working an inning, or even 2 a couple days in a row really that hard on the body/arm? They limited Tommy Hanson’s innings last year also and are doing the same with Medlen this year. But anyway I was really disappointed there was no Strasburg yesterday, you all think he may pitch tomorrow?
No, he's not going to pitch tomorrow.
You should focus your hopes on hoping that we pitch him against the Phillies Sunday. Olsen’s already been announced as tomorrow’s starter.

Batista can probably still go tomorrow if he needs to do.
But we’re okay if Olsen can give us 5. You could pitch Peaches again. Storen’s certainly good for two. Capps is good as well.

good news on the minors front.
Brad Peacock made his debut start for Harrisburg tonight. Better line than some of the games he’s put up for Potomac.
