"The most likely player to move in that group is Dunn. The Yanks have mild interest, but it appeared the White Sox and Giants were pushing harder."
• Tim Brown - "Wobbly contenders weaken trade market" - MLB - Yahoo! Sports
"At a time when the White Sox could use some thump, Dunn is available. The Nationals have shown little interest in extending Dunn’s contract, which expires at season’s end. Dunn is a popular figure among the rumors, having been linked to the Tigers, Giants, Rays and Rangers."
• MLB.com's Bill Ladson - "Nats need starter for Sunday"
"However, left-handers John Lannan and Matt Chico are candidates to make the start. Lannan is having an up-and down- season in the Minor Leagues. In seven starts for Double-A Harrisburg, Lannan is 1-4 with a 4.20 ERA."

Hey there
By the way, I replied to your post on Bunning’s career earnings. I think those have to be adjusted for inflation and standardized to today’s salary scale. Even if what he said isn’t exactly rational, he was a HOF-pitcher in an era where pitchers weren’t commodities, they were just ballplayers.
Sunshine will come to Nats Park, I promise.
That's fair, but why say anything? I just don't understand a HOF'r doing that...
He’s above that, right.
Just not thinking, that's all
Considering he’s had bigger gaffes, I can live with it. Nothing more that something facetious being represented as something more.
Plus to be completely honest, I’m sure Bunning sees a little bit of himself in Strassy. Both had nasty fastballs and nastier hooks.
Sunshine will come to Nats Park, I promise.
Bunning is a nasty, cranky old man

I wish Livo would give a couple of clinics.
He’s the only one who knows how to do it well.
Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes. Oscar Wilde
He does everything well ...
… his guile has improved to stellar levels in his pitching from out of nowhere …
hopefully his young apprentice Yunieski Maya will bring more of the same …
I think he's tired of running the bases this season.
A lot of his AB as Guzishly hack-tastic. He takes his three swings so he can go sit down again, and seems almost annoyed when he pokes one through a hole.

I think most of them are trying so hard to be major league pitchers (and many failing)
that they don’t pay one bit of attention to their ABs.
It’s stupid, of course, because they could help themselves a lot if they could lay down the bunt or even get a single.

Dunn to be traded???
Why is there such a ground swell on blogs, talk shows about trading Dunn? I think that once again we see why the Nats will never be a contender because no blue chip players want to play for a cheapskate team. Take a look at Oswalt signing with the Phils. OH GREAT! Did the Nats even try to get Oswalt?
I'm not on the Morse-every-day bandwagon like some, though he's hot...
I think he’d be exposed pretty quickly…

Tide is turning on those stories, with reports that Sox and Yanks are looking elsewhere today...
But I get your point…
As for Oswalt, I doubt he would have left Houston for the Nats with his I want to play for a contender approach, but the Nats did discuss the idea a month or so back…

I think he'll sign, but the minor league season ends after August so it's a wasted year.
He’s used to playing well over 100 games per year though, which will help him in the system next year.
MLB told teams they would not announce over-slot deals until day before deadline.
i promise the Nats will sign Harper.

by bluelineswinger on Jul 29, 2010 4:24 PM EDT up reply actions
It was 1.62 at AA, not AAA
Nonetheless he is a talented guy, high strikeouts, big frame, 92-95. Rangers are pretty solid in the pen and will continue to find guys to convert to relievers in the minors, so they can part with talent to win now.
He has a high K/9 at pretty much every level, which is good. The PCL is hitter-friendly too, fwiw.
Sunshine will come to Nats Park, I promise.
To play first, that would definitely help them
Upgrade over Smoak in the short term, upgrade over Davis in any term

Am I dumb?
I know that, I was just giving a specious comparison to the Ranger’s players that have played there this season, and Smoak is included there. The Rangers, loaded as they are, have like a 85 OPS+ at 1B, and that doesn’t cut it. Cantu would help that.
Sunshine will come to Nats Park, I promise.
The Nats might have got Dan Haren?
I hate to be mean, but that never was going to happen. And it was from the DBacks, as well.
Sunshine will come to Nats Park, I promise.
Haren and Oswalt are the type of players that...
you have to give up good young talent for.
1) Nats have very precious little young talent
2) They should be trying to trade for more, not give any way.
This team isn’t competing for anything this year and next year. Very hard to have 10+ wins from year to year. We’re just now getting past all the damage Bowden did to this franchise. I think most people don’t understand how long it takes to build an organization. It’s like this was an expansion team.

Catching up on the signing chatter, I am convinced that the Bryce Harper deal will be done. Both sides have that much invested in getting Harper’s foot on that ladder to the majors. A more important signing, for me, will be A.J. Cole. He slipped to the 4th round on signability concerns. If the Nats step up and buy him away from Miami that would be a HUGE statement about the Lerners’ commitment to the team IMHO.
