According to a Twitter post from @MLBNetworkRadio, Nats' Skipper Jim Riggleman informed fans on Thursday morning that the Nationals' '09 no.1 overall pick Stephen Strasburg will miss his next scheduled start this Sunday after having been pulled from his previous outing before taking the mound, but would most likely not be shut down for the season:

Strasburg was reportedly unable to get loose in the bullpen while preparing for Tuesday's start against Atlanta, though MRI's showed only inflammation in his right shoulder.

Is there an open audition?

I’d be happy with league minimum. I think I could go out there and give up 10 ER in 1 IP as well as the next guy (although I’m not sure if I could actually record any outs). When did Chico (the pitcher) last pitch? MOAR CHICO!

Our options are Chico, Lannan, or Miss Iowa?

Much as I’m pro-Chico (although at least half-jokingly like Souldrummer’s pro-Batista stance), I can’t say I’m enthusiastic about throwing any of these guys out in front of the Fillies. On the other hand, their fans don’t deserve to see a Strasburg start in person. Let ’em eat junkballers!

Or the ACTUAL Miss Iowa.

Connors totally can pitch!

She’s probably better than Marquis.

Last start was July 23rd…Lannan last pitched two days ago and Marquis last night…

It lines up for Lannan, I guess.

Who wants to give Batista another start?

Let me start!

I actually can pitch (although I haven’t since doing BP in high school). Hope you don’t mind that I’m limited to a 70 mph fastball, a 60 mph changeup, and a slightly erratic 65 mph slider.

I can pitch better than you, I bet.

And I’m almost a foot and a half shorter than you.

Too bad I’ll end up on second instead – Riggleman is trading Kennedy for me. Despite my lack of depth perception and upper body strength, I’ll still make fewer errors and bat better. :P
