Around SBN: Despite Relocation Drama, Coyotes Overcome Adversity

MLB Network is reporting it a done deal, but I can't find a link yet, so we're going with the MLB Trade Rumors. The Nationals have acquired C Wilson Ramos, the #58 prospect according to Baseball America and one of the top catching prospects in baseball for closer Matt Capps!

96 OPS+ in 7 games at the majors...

758 OPS in 5 seasons in the minors with a 50% CS. Promising.

It's confirmed too, new post on front page...

Vivian Jaffe: "Have you ever transcended space and time?"
Albert Markovski: "Yes. No. Uh, time, not space... No, I don't know what you're talking about."

I'll let Patrick or someone else have at it when they do an article (don't want to double post)

But I’ll give some feedback here. Obviously, you know I’m happy. Capps was expendable here, with Storen and Clippard both looking capable of closing ballgames the rest of the way for the Nats. Ramos is a phenomenal asset.

Sickels wasn’t as high on him as some:

4) Wilson Ramos, C, Grade B-: Power and defense are positives, main question is weak walk rate

Baseball America ranked him #2 among Twins prospects

Keith Law ranked him 42nd in baseball:

Ramos has had trouble staying healthy, but when he plays he hits, and he plays a premium position at which bats like his are hard to find. He missed time in 2009 with a broken finger and a partially torn hamstring, which makes his .317/.341/.454 line in 54 games at Double-A even more impressive. Ramos is big, taller than his listed 6-foot height, and his large frame suggests he might outgrow the position. But right now he throws extremely well (he’s nailed 43 percent of would-be base stealers in the past two years) and his receiving is adequate. He does need to work on the intangible aspects of catching, like handling a staff, something the Twins value very highly in their catchers. At the plate, he has strong hands and very good hand-eye coordination, with a hard, line-drive-oriented swing; he’s also impatient, drawing just six walks in his abbreviated 2009 season, and will have to up his patience or hit well above .300 if he ever has to move out from behind the dish. Of course, the position Ramos plays is rather well filled right now in Minnesota, and a contract extension for Joe Mauer would probably make Ramos one of the most valuable prospects on the trading block this season.

Depending upon where you go, Ramos is generally considered a B to B+ prospect who provides phenomenal defense and a solid bat at a premium position. Also, depending upon where you go, he’d rank anywhere from 40th to 75th among the top prospects in baseball.

Reports a couple of days ago were that Rizzo had asked for Ramos when first talking to the Twins and they balked at him. He stood pat, and got a guy with a really nice ceiling and a pretty good floor.

I presume that this means that moving Derek Norris to first base is a lot more likely.
