Washington Nationals: MLB Trade Deadline And Rumor Roundup.
(ed. note - "I wrote an early Trade Deadline article that was published yesterday as part of a feature series on SBNation.com, where the baseball writers are collecting short team-by-team breakdowns of what to expect from each franchise before the July 31st, 2010 Deadline...")
• Washington Nationals: "34-45 with a month to go before the deadline, the Washington Nationals had some thinking things were different when they hovered around .500 through the first two months of the season. 26-26 on May 31st, the Nats proceeded to lose 19 of 27 in June to drop eleven games under .500, bringing the DC fanbase back down to earth in spite of the baseball-wide frenzy that's surrounded the rise through the system and eventual debut of '09 no.1 overall pick Stephen Strasburg..."

"They're wantin' me to trade my Donkey and I say, 'No,...No,...No'...."
I’m confident that Rizzo will demand too much for anyone. Some GM said he’s a real phonecall killer and it’s always a one-way street with the guy….
Ladson: “The #Nats are going back to the rotation at middle infield, which means Cristian Guzman is no longer the everyday 2B.”
This is just great, with more Kennedy, more lineup shenanigans, and more “bad luck”….but probably not more AG as defensive replacement…

Got to trade somebody
I don’t really care who gets traded but this team is better than they are playing maybe a trade could spark some life into the team. Just needs to be a player who is major league ready not a guy who we will have to wait for a couple of years for.
The White Sox
aren’t getting much from Mark Kotsay, their regular DH. Guzman, at this stage, may not supply more (or even as much) power, but his BA is far superior. I don’t have any stats (hitting w/RISP, etc.) in front of me but in my viewing experience he’s been good in the clutch pretty often. Obviously Guz wouldn’t give you the package Donkey would, but maybe the Sox, hot to stay competitive w/the Twins and Detroit, would surrender a (somewhat) promising prospect for him.
