Wire Taps: Washington Nationals Not Trading Adam Dunn For Edwin Jackson According To Reports...

If the source of this latest update wasn't quoting another source I'd be less likely to believe, but within the last few minutes, former DC GM Jim Bowden posted the following message via his Twitter account (@JimBowdenXMFOX):

"Tim Kurkjian of ESPN reporting that Nationals told him directly they are NOT trading Dunn to White Sox for Edwin Jackson."

So they're trading him for someone else? Ahhh, ambiguity...

As has been reported earlier this afternoon, the White Sox and Diamondbacks completed a trade that sent Jackson to Chicago in return for RHP Daniel Hudson and LHP David Holmberg, which had many speculating that Jackson might then be flipped to the Nats who reportedly covet the 26-year-old right-handed Jackson.

USA Today's Bob Nightengale (@bnightengale), however, is still reporting within the last few minutes that the White Sox are still, "...focused only on Dunn; not Berkman or Fielder."

Meanwhile, MLB.com's Bill Ladson (@washingnats) has humorously been providing hourly updates on Adam Dunn's activities:

"As of 1:12 p.m. ET, #Nats 1B Adam Dunn is at the movies and has not been told anything -- traded or extension."

...More news rumors when it's they're available...

The Nats were keen on Daniel Hudson

So does that mean talks with the Sox are off. The Rays are stocked with prospects. Really Dunn makes more sense going to the Rays than the Sox. Come on Nats, make something happen.

Why not us? Why not now?

I'd love to get one of their pitchers plus Brignac

But it seems like they think he’s a solution for them, unfortunately. Beckham has not impressed since being drafted.

The Rays need him more than the Yankees. But the Yankees don’t want the Rays to get him. Bidding war?

Strasburgeddon approaches, the savior is almost here.

I seriously hope that he goes to the Rays if we trade him.

I like to root for former Nats when they find greener pastures. Rooting for Capps in Minny is a no-brainer. For Dunn to go the Evil Empire would confuse my allegiance computer and possibly cause it to shut down.

I don’t see how he fits in the Yankees lineup. Batting second, DH only. They have a revolving door at DH with Tex, Posada, the other old guys on that team. The Rays covet a power hitting DH. Plus Dunn is a relatively cheap rent a player. If I am a the GM of the Rays I make a splash, because I have a ton of prospects. I can part with one.

Why not us? Why not now?

by Expos4 on Jul 30, 2010 2:26 PM EDT up reply actions

+1

They don’t have to give up Jennings or Hellickson. At some point, there’s enough prospects to go for the brass ring if your the Rays. ajk knows the system better than me, but isn’t like the 4th or 5th prospect in the Rays system going to be worth it if it they could eliminate the evil empire from the playoffs.

Yet they were willing to trade Hudson for Dunn

or, now, trade Jackson in a deal for Dunn.

Unless you think Freddy Garcia is good, and is going to be decent for the rest of the season, the fact that MLB-level pitching was in play for Dunn already makes you think they’re willing to trade pieces off their MLB roster. And that they’re willing to trade Jackson for Dunn.

But then, I agree that its heavily unlikely, unless someone else were going to Chicago as well, or Rizzo was eating a lot of Dunn’s salary.
