Wire Taps: Washington Nationals Not Trading Adam Dunn For Edwin Jackson According To Reports...
If the source of this latest update wasn't quoting another source I'd be less likely to believe, but within the last few minutes, former DC GM Jim Bowden posted the following message via his Twitter account (@JimBowdenXMFOX):
"Tim Kurkjian of ESPN reporting that Nationals told him directly they are NOT trading Dunn to White Sox for Edwin Jackson."
So they're trading him for someone else? Ahhh, ambiguity...
As has been reported earlier this afternoon, the White Sox and Diamondbacks completed a trade that sent Jackson to Chicago in return for RHP Daniel Hudson and LHP David Holmberg, which had many speculating that Jackson might then be flipped to the Nats who reportedly covet the 26-year-old right-handed Jackson.
USA Today's Bob Nightengale (@bnightengale), however, is still reporting within the last few minutes that the White Sox are still, "...focused only on Dunn; not Berkman or Fielder."
Meanwhile, MLB.com's Bill Ladson (@washingnats) has humorously been providing hourly updates on Adam Dunn's activities:
"As of 1:12 p.m. ET, #Nats 1B Adam Dunn is at the movies and has not been told anything -- traded or extension."
...More news rumors when it's they're available...

The Nats were keen on Daniel Hudson
So does that mean talks with the Sox are off. The Rays are stocked with prospects. Really Dunn makes more sense going to the Rays than the Sox. Come on Nats, make something happen.
Why not us? Why not now?
I'd love to get one of their pitchers plus Brignac
But it seems like they think he’s a solution for them, unfortunately. Beckham has not impressed since being drafted.
The Rays need him more than the Yankees. But the Yankees don’t want the Rays to get him. Bidding war?

I seriously hope that he goes to the Rays if we trade him.
I like to root for former Nats when they find greener pastures. Rooting for Capps in Minny is a no-brainer. For Dunn to go the Evil Empire would confuse my allegiance computer and possibly cause it to shut down.
On a desperate search for Sunshine at Nats Park.
You don't want Dunn to go to the Rays because of the cost in prospects, correct?
On a desperate search for Sunshine at Nats Park.
I don’t see how he fits in the Yankees lineup. Batting second, DH only. They have a revolving door at DH with Tex, Posada, the other old guys on that team. The Rays covet a power hitting DH. Plus Dunn is a relatively cheap rent a player. If I am a the GM of the Rays I make a splash, because I have a ton of prospects. I can part with one.
Why not us? Why not now?
+1
They don’t have to give up Jennings or Hellickson. At some point, there’s enough prospects to go for the brass ring if your the Rays. ajk knows the system better than me, but isn’t like the 4th or 5th prospect in the Rays system going to be worth it if it they could eliminate the evil empire from the playoffs.
On a desperate search for Sunshine at Nats Park.
Excuse me
We’re getting Hellickson, Brignac, Davis, and Jennings. Rizzo’s said so.

I would be happy with a Colome/Torres package, maybe swap Matt Sweeney for one of the pitchers
Sunshine will come to Nats Park, I promise.
And Crawford's a FA after the season
as is Pena.
That team changes after this season. They’ll still be good, but IDK if they’re beating up the two mega-empires next year.
Needs moar dingerz.
They're good enough
Crawford will be directly replaced by DJenn (unless we pony up and resign CC, which we can do if he takes a mil or so less).
Pena is valuable and we don’t have a direct ready-made replacement, but we’ll take our losses with Zobrist/Dan Johnson for now.
Sunshine will come to Nats Park, I promise.
I believe ChiSox are out.
They wanted more than Hudson from the get go from what it sounds like, and there really is little that they should want from the ChiSox after getting good value from the Twins for Capps.
On a desperate search for Sunshine at Nats Park.
I don't see him trading Beckham.
The common thread through the leaking sieve that is the ChiSox is not doing anything that hurts them on the field this year. Who do they replace Beckham with if they trade him?
On a desperate search for Sunshine at Nats Park.
Ah, Guz.
Whose passion for competition and playoff drive will lead him to waive his 5 and 10 rights.
On a desperate search for Sunshine at Nats Park.
We love you, man.
But if they sign Guz back for more than 1M next year and a very part time role most of us here will go after Rizzo with pitchforks.
On a desperate search for Sunshine at Nats Park.
I hear Toronto doesn't want Aaron Hill anymore, since he sucks.
We’ll trade some home-run syringes for him, pretty please?
Sunshine will come to Nats Park, I promise.
But Guz is the last original NAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Sorry, Livo)
It’s sentimental value for me. Hitting .300 doesn’t hurt either.
Screech's Godson
Haha true true
And that first year brought some good times if I recall right
Sunshine will come to Nats Park, I promise.
Lol. Kinda hard to remember since I was 12 during that season.
But Guz wasn’t as good then as he is now.
Screech's Godson
I REMEBER THAT!!!!!
Jason Simontacci, Levale Spiegner, Ryan Wagner, Shawn Hill, Mike Bacsik… Memories
Screech's Godson
I always like Shawn Hill
Hoepfully he gets back to the majors
Sunshine will come to Nats Park, I promise.
Remember that time he had a no-hitter going then took himself out b/c of his elbow?
Sunshine will come to Nats Park, I promise.
Yet they were willing to trade Hudson for Dunn
or, now, trade Jackson in a deal for Dunn.
Unless you think Freddy Garcia is good, and is going to be decent for the rest of the season, the fact that MLB-level pitching was in play for Dunn already makes you think they’re willing to trade pieces off their MLB roster. And that they’re willing to trade Jackson for Dunn.
But then, I agree that its heavily unlikely, unless someone else were going to Chicago as well, or Rizzo was eating a lot of Dunn’s salary.
Needs moar dingerz.
Beckham's hit in July.
.998 OPS in July spanning 21 games.
On a desperate search for Sunshine at Nats Park.
Jackson walks too many people. His ERA is over 5 this year. Please no Jackson.
Why not us? Why not now?
ERA equals bad. His walks rep is exaggerated.
He’s not terrible and he’s a quality piece on any team.
But albeit, in the right role.
Sunshine will come to Nats Park, I promise.
Other than the Rays/Death Star/Pink Hat/Fillies/Cards/Giants, he's a solid #3 with 2 ability
Sunshine will come to Nats Park, I promise.
I think he could be a minor ace.
He just hasn’t put it together yet, and he’s already 27(?)
Screech's Godson
Well, that's what the Dodgers/Rays/Tigers/DBacks hoped to tap into
Sunshine will come to Nats Park, I promise.
I'm still not compelled that keeping Dunn for the rest of the year and offering arbitration is a such a bad scenario
It might be because I don’t like midseason trades for aesthetic reasons but I guess it’s just one of the sad things about pro sports, seeing your boys go elsewhere
Sox will end up dealing Jackson to the Nats and then acquiring Brett Myers.
Why not us? Why not now?

C'mon man.
Rangers should win the division. That doesn’t affect the Rays too much. Isn’t your rotation deeper than their’s anyway. Make a move to bolster your offense a bit, and you’re good with the Rays for the wildcard and a threat to take down the Bombers in the playoffs.
On a desperate search for Sunshine at Nats Park.
I meant sad for the Nats to let him go, and good for the Nats to get rid of him
I’m not worried about the Rays at all, I’m ready for the call ups and this seasons with the Death Star this weekend.
Sunshine will come to Nats Park, I promise.
And man are the Rangers loading up to take down the death star

Well, um...
I guess it’s cool since Kennedy hits well against Oswalt, but what are we doing for 2B tomorrow?

Don’t need to see lefty Willie Harris at 2B. Gonzalez is your backup. Will be interested to see who gets the roster slot. Orr? Lambin?

I'm surprised too

My god this is good news. Trading him for a bag of balls is good.
It will be interesting to see what the cash looks like for this deal. Guzman ain’t cheap for the Rangers money wise and I’ll be interested to see what the prospects are.

Oh, NICE.
Yes please.
Now I want to see what the prospects are. The Rangers have to make other teams eat salary. That means prospects costs are up.
Needs moar dingerz.
And the Rangers have arguably the deepest system in the majors
That’s why the can make all of these trades right now. Cantu was a fabulous pickup and Guz will strengthen their bench.

I'm thinking we get an infielder and a reliever

Texas can't add payroll.
They’re not paying probably more than 1MM, tops. They only paid 2MM of Cliff Lee’s 4MM salary I think. The other guy who’s not Tatsuko probably is the better guy

They can't
They are bankrupt and mandated by the MLB to take as minimal of salary as possible, usually close to nil but at most vet’s minimum
