Sunburned outside Potomac; Norris + Moore for Four; Upper Minors Report 8/13

Tough day for our upper minors affiliates. Matt Chico survived a three run first to strike out 10 in 6 innings but the Chiefs lost 5-2 to Indianapolis. El Duque pitched a scoreless 8th for the Senators against the Yankee farmhands, but Harrisburg still fell 4-1 to Trenton in a Ryan Tatusko loss. For those with Yankee interests, Yankees reliever Alfredo Aceves started the game with two scoreless innings. Potomac scored four runs in the first behind two run homers from boppers Derek Norris and Tyler Moore in a 4-1 win. Two hit nights from Hague and Hood were not nearly enough in Paul Demny's 10-2 Suns blowout loss at the hands of Greensboro. The Hagerstown gamer focuses on the missed opportunities of the Hagerstown attack highlighted by three double plays. The biggest story of the night in the minors, though, was the pitching debut of Yunesky Maya in the GCL. Maya's line for the day: 3IP, 0H, 0BB, 1K, 1HBP, 8 groundouts, 0 flyouts. Mark Zuckerman points out that Maya plunked the first youngster he faced before a smooth nineup, nine down. I gues pitching inside might have made the youngsters a little skittish in the box. Sue Dinem of comments that Maya may be spending another week in the GCL before a possible Harrisburg promotion in his complete minors summary for Friday.

Upper minors summary after the jump:

AAA Syracuse:

Fan Fav Boomer Whiting: 1-3, R, 2K, HBP, SB I have no idea how he's doing it, but Boomer's posting the biggest OBP of his career, .396, in 67 games for Syracuse with 30 steals against 10 caught stealing.

Grizzy Fav Michael Martinez, PH-3B: 1-1, SB

Wilson Ramos, C: Off day

Danny Espinosa, SS: 1-3, BB, CS on a steal of home attempt. No gamer for Syracuse (as of 11:50 AM Saturday morning) so I'm not sure of whether this was a dumb play, a good play gone wrong, or a failed double steal.
