The great Nationals guess-em contest
Anyone who's watched the Nats play much recently have no doubt been appalled by their excessive number of
- Errors, and
- Double Switches.
Face-palms abound in the stands these days. But now, you can turn that angst into joy!
How, you ask? Simple! Just guess how many errors the Nationals will commit during the remainder of the season, and how many times Jim Riggleman will exercise his knowledge of the double-switch rule! The best guesser will win a never-before-bobbled Nyjer Morgan Bobblehead! No purchase required!Contest starts with Friday's game versus the Dodgers, so get your calculators out. The Nats play 53 more games after the DBacks' series.
Rules:
- Entrants should submit guesses for the number of errors the Nats make from Aug 6th through the end of the season; how many double-switches Jim Riggleman performs, and, as a tie breaker, the number of times Willie Harris appears as a pinch hittter.
- The (absolute) difference between the actual number of errors and the guessed number errors, plus the (absolute) difference between the actual number of double-switches and guessed double-switches will be calculated for each participant. The entrant with the smallest sum of differences wins the bobblehead. In case of a tie, the difference in actual and guessed Willie Harris pinch hit appearances will be used. If there's still a tie, then a coin flip will decide the winner.
- Post your entries in this thread before the start of Friday's Dodgers game.
- And remember, it's all in fun.
Here are the Current Entrants and the Standings (I know it's not the prettiest thing, but it's pretty much all I know how to do with the tools available):

I agree
Rob I want to congratulate you on a wonderful thread outlining the three biggest jokes of the season………….Any other needed tie breakers could be how many more starts does Nieves get while the true backup catcher sits uselessly in AAA? Or How many more starts does Wee Willy get while JMAX sits on his hands uselessly in DC?…………..Anyway good job Rob…..This thread reaaly put a smile on my face………..
Maybe I'll have another one for my extra Pudge bobblehead...

If I were a Philly fan, I would offer to sell you mine.
I am currently at a loss as to what to do with my Zim bobblehead, though. I was at that game, sat in the blazing sun beneath the scoreboard, and then watched Zim get absolutely and totally punked by the ChiSox with at least 3Ks. It’s not exactly a fond Nats memory for me. The dude’s still awesome, though so I can’t really give away. I’m just bummed that my Dunn bobblehead got a broken bat single on it’s way to the Phillies Zim walkoff game.

I will gladly take Zim bobblehead, like I have previously asked around here!
woohoo wahoowa
Sunshine will come to Nats Park, I promise. (visit por favor? my website)
I will observe how this one goes and contemplate a similar offer at some point.
In all honesty, I see myself considering the Zim bobblehead. Morgan’s fun, but he’s not going to be in the Hall of Fame or have his number retired unless grizzy forms a grizzy army to take over the Hall of Fame vote.

The double switches are amusing. Rooting for errors is painful, painful, painful for me, though. But here goes.
25 errors (Sunshine!)
40 double switches (September callups will reduce need for double switches IMHO)
20 Harris PH attempts (He’s our only lefty off the bench, now, methinks.)
and as a special bonus…………………………………………
50 Nyjer Morgan bunt plate appearances with 10 Nyjer Morgan bunt hits.

This looks like a good time
I just want to state in advance, if I win this contest, I want the Morgan Bobblehead sent to the Mamba.
1. 33 Errors (though if you extrapolate the numbers they should get 41)
2. 47 Double Switches
3. 21 TAWH Pinch Hit ABs
4. I choose tails in the coin flip.
I will gladly eat crow if Brandon Jones does well for the 49ers in 2010.

40-40-20
1. 40 errors
2. 40 double switches
3. 20 willies
53 errors. 106 double switches. 26 TAWH pinch hits
an error a game, two switches a game, 1/2 a pinch hit a agame.

I'm just saying this could get kind of dicey.
We’ve got to like keep an agreed upon number during the gamethread. And technically if Willie Harris is double switched into the game and then bats, it’s a double switch, but it’s not one of his pinch hitting opportunities. But we have a new stat for hockey fans: The Willie Harris Hat Trick. If Willie Harris pinch hits in a game, is double switched out, and makes an error before his glorious departure he has pulled off a Willie Harris hat trick and there ought to be some way of recognizing this feat. A Willie Harris signed hat for the winner if Willie can pull this off? A side wager of some kind?
One thing is for sure, no longer will Willie Harris’ deeds go unnoticed.
On a desperate search for Sunshine at Nats Park. In Rizzo and Ramos we trust.
If you are double-switched in and then become a batter, you are not a pinch hitter.
On the other hand, if you have a pinch hit appearance, and the team bats around and you come up again in the same inning, then you get a second pinch-hit appearance in the same game!
