In Marquis we trust.

We trust that he will be an utterly mediocre pitcher with occasional moments of awesomeness and occasional moments of being terrible.

They deserve a fanshot and possibly a letter for that.

We post the event, we hype the event, you drive to the event and then there are no bobbleheads and no crowd. I strongly suggest you ask for some kind of voucher in the team store and see how they handle it. If they don’t respond positively, they are sending a clear message that we do not need to go to the dump that is the Pfitz for promotional games. That would leave elite pitching prospects on weekends and playoff hunt games as primary games of interests.

Please remind them that you post at a blog site that may have interest in planning trips to go to see games. Hagerstown, Frederick, Bowie are close options and Harrisburg has a beautiful stadium (still worthwhile trying to organize a group trip to Harrisburg before they wrap up 9/6).

He's played a total of 3 games for Potomac.

I can’t keep track of the shortstop carousel. He was 23 and had a .691 OPS at Hagerstown before his callup. If he can shock the world and keep some of this up next year, maybe he’ll find a grizzy or a Boomer guy to vault him to Fan Fav status. 16th round pick in 2009. Also, he did not crack the top 20+ on Sickels. He’s got an uphill battle to fight against.

I’d appreciate if you keep an eye on his glove, though. If he’s a plus defender he’d have value at Potomac or Harrisburg.

That's good.

My general MO is that I post Top 20 guys or likely to be Top 20 guys in the bullet points and mention outlier prospects in the game summaries leading off the column. Tyler Moore had to get blazing hot to get on my list. Really, I only care about Moore, Norris, Applebee, AJ Morris, Holder at Potomac. I’m sure there are some other guys who I should be interested in, though. Losing Burgess and Lombardozzi really depleted their roster and I can understand why Potomac fans may not be too enthused about that. Nicol could be the Lomardozzi replacement, but I’m not sure.

Riggs had this to say about Ramos on the pre-game:

Lannan is apparently “easy to handle” as a catcher. Clippard is hard to catch because of his violent deliver and “high fastball” (was he diplomatically referring to wildness, there?), and apparently Burnett is “tough to catch,” too. So, nothing really about Ramos at all.

Not a good sign for the man.

He certainly doesn’t have the pop to play 3rd and that’s usually the land where prospects go to die in the Nats organization.

BTW-Sean Rooney is noone to get excited about. He’s there because he flunked AA the last two years and may be part of the bump the guys down stuff due to signing Ramos. He cannot be happy he hasn’t gotten it done above high A. He’s kind of a cautionary tale for guys like Moore who people want to project at AA.

Personally I think we need a new pitching coach (I realize this is going to start a long argument).

I just don’t think McCatty gets a lot out of our pitchers…some of our guys (Balester, Clippard, etc) have good stuff and don’t know how to use it.

I still understand

how this is relevant to me saying we should get rid of Steve McCatty.

All we’re saying now is that John Lannan was doing badly and there was a pitching coach on Earth who coached him better than McCatty, and I doubt thats the point you’re trying to make.

by Mevans12 on Aug 20, 2010 8:45 PM EDT up reply actions

Leo Mazzone's out there

kidding, I just read a good article about him today.

Every pitching coach who isn’t under contract would be interested in an opportunity to work with Strasburg, JZim, Maya, Storen, etc, so we could really have our choice of whoever we want (or whoever’s available). McCatty hasn’t gotten much out of anyone.

Our only successful starters are Strasburg and Livan, and McCatty’s not making a difference there.

The only thing is that you could see the fail happening and laugh at it a bit. It was one of these “Which way will we manage to botch RISP tonight?” kind of things. Now the game that you saw in Potomac tonight, that’s some serious heartbreaker if you care about the P-Nats like you care about the Nationals.
