Game 129: Insult to injury
- Trying to hold a spot: Scott Olsen (-5.4%) goes 6 IP with 5 Ks, 1 BB, 1 ER, and no run support.
- Finally! Kevin Mench (+8.3%) leads Nats' hitters in WPA, going 0-0 with a walk...
- Rallies killed: Ryan Zimmerman (-7.6%) GDPs with two on in the third (-11.8%), while Ivan Rodriguez (-19.9%)
Ksgrounds out to end the game with runners on the corners (-10.4%). - Painful as a torn UCL: Nats go 1-12 with RISP (with the one hit being an IF single that doesn't score a run), strand 14 runners, and hit for -45.1% WPA.

Been a while since the last GuessEm update
I was too busy wallowing in the stormy weather.
Anyway, with tonight’s 2-Desmond night (neither of which actually involved Desmond), Cassander pulls back into the lead.

Speaking of the contest...
What many fail to realize is that the number of Rigglemans will shoot up after Sept. 1, as Riggles will have many more shiny new toys to mess around with…

How many players do you think they'll bring up?
The function of a double switch is to preserve pitchers so they can stay in the game longer. If there are more pitchers available, it stands to reason that there will be, in fact, fewer double-switches.
But then again, “reason” doesn’t necessarily seem to be the driving force behind some of Riggles’ game maneuvers.

This is the NORMAL reason why managers use double switches...
Reasons why Riggles does it:
-He’s bored
-Because he can
-He takes sick pleasure in turning the lineup on its side
-He wants to show that he’s the boss
-Just to relentlessly annoy the FederalBaseball faithful…
With these new players, I expect a large uptick in Riggles’ mannygeering, hence more double switches…

NYJER GOT PICKED OFF
That made me so angry I nearly started smashing things in the stands. It was UN FOR GIVEABLE to get picked off in the 8th inning with your team down by four runs. That Harris immediately homered afterward just rubbed salt in the wounds.
Well, that sucked
Although, like the last game I attended (Cubs on Tuesday) the Nats made it interesting in the 9th after sleeping all evening. At least the fireworks were good.
On a pedantic note, Pudge didn’t K to end the game, he grounded out to 2nd. I distinctly remember thinking to myself that it would have been a double play if the Cardinals had needed it. It was funny, though, the way Bernardina got that much respect from the closer. He wanted NO PART of Roger, even though he was putting the tying run on base!
Kind words for Tyler Clippard?
He’ll be at the blood drive tomorrow, as I will. I don’t want to be a jerk and insult him, but these days there don’t seem to be a plethora of good vibes swirling about the young man. My little-girlish teenage daughter will be along and she wants to meet him even though she really doesn’t know who he is (Dunn, the Zimmenator and Strasburg are the only Nats she can reliably identify).
Guess I’ll just greet him with Warren Beatty’s oft-spoken line from Heaven Can Wait: ""Hi, how ya doin’?" Or praise him for his sense of social responsibility.
It's a shame we didn't injure Pujols or Holiday enough to keep them out of the lineup tonight...
A solo shot each accounted for the only ERs of the game…

Philthies blow it again
Brad Lidge BALKS in the tying run with the bases loaded, bottom 9th in San Diego. I love it!
The Nats are riding the Strasburg railroad to your town.
