So, what does Riggs get for his defense of Nyjer this whole season?
A giant knife in the back and a crappy W/L record.
Guess the question is, is Nyjer worth saving? Do you want him back next season?

As a 4th OFer I don't mind Morgan.

It's a push for me.
He has contact issues. We have 2nd base needs. As long as someone reminds him he can’t slug his way to the bigs and needs to focus on getting on base if he gets here, I don’t have a problem with it.
On a desperate search for Sunshine at Nats Park. In Rizzo and Ramos we trust.
I'm hoping so
Ramos certainly is. Espinosa is not on the 40 man roster as of right now, so they’d have to add him and drop someone from the 40 man. Bringing him up for September wouldn’t hurt them in terms of service time, and it would give him a little taste of the big leagues. I still assume he starts next season in Syracuse, but he’ll almost certainly be added to the 40 man so he can get some work in Spring Training with the club, so there’s no reason not to take a look.

The St. Louis situation has me intrigued, and I know that I always notice the Cardinal organization a lot more than most of you since I live here. Not sure about the lazy thing
Larussa claimed that Rasmus has done all the work and said that he works hard. Then (to paraphrase) said that Jon Jay is doing a better job. Of course, the whole point is that the lineup should include both Jay and Rasmus, with guys like Allen Craig and Randy Winn (Winn’s utterly useless at this point, while Craig figures to be a decent fourth or fifth OF liimited to the corners) on the bench.
The Sunday thing was really odd. Rasmus was in the lineup, and then pulled from it at the last minute. He’d had the calf injury, but claims he was ready all last weekend. Larussa had been sitting him pretty frequently all season, and he’s pretty clearly their third best hitter (Pujols/Holliday). Honestly, it’s costing the Cards a shot at the playoffs.
Larussa has done this with many guys (JD Drew, Ray Lankford, Anthony Reyes, Chris Perez… there are more instances not coming to me at the moment), and the end result is always that they’re on their way out of town.

1) Annoying guy who kept my Knicks from getting at least one championship during Ewing’s prime.
2) Awful GM for the Wizards responsible for drafting Kwame Brown.

4) Jerk during Hall of Fame speech.

No love for Solis?
The Shanahan era is going to bring the Redskins back to Glory! Great QB and an actual O-line.
If he takes one of their spots right away, I'd be thrilled...He's on AFL roster so who knows...
I’d guess he starts in minors and works way up though. But he’s another close-to-the-majors arm and you know what that means when Rizzo says it…

That would be a lot for Solis to make it up here next year.

Norris, Burgess, Lombardozzi, Cole, Kimball, and Solis are the AFL guys. Room for additional part time selections like Harper if so desired by the Rizzo.

yeah, it will.
I just don’t see any reason, performance or service time wise, for Solis to be up in the bigs until June, at the earliest.

That would be extremely aggressive to me.
That would also require a lot of fail at the big league level with the veterans like Livo, Marquis and Maya.
On a desperate search for Sunshine at Nats Park. In Rizzo and Ramos we trust.
yeah, that's the absolute absolute earliest
Still ridiculously aggressive though.
I just don’t want Rizzo doing what the A’s did with Trevor Cahill and Brett Anderson last year. It worked with Anderson (except the lost year of service time for Anderson pitching horribly to start off ’09 season), but Cahill was one of the worst SP in the bigs in 2009.

yeah,I'd peg OD rotation more like
Zim-Maya-Olsen-Livo-Marquis-Lannan
(i think the Nats should offer Olsen arb. he won’t get enough in arb to be worth nontendering. and of course, he’s one of my favorite mediocre pitchers)
and, 6 guys, since someone is bound to get hurt or struggle.
Needs moar dingerz.
Don't we have to offer Lannan arb too?
On a desperate search for Sunshine at Nats Park. In Rizzo and Ramos we trust.
I assume that they will not offer him arbritration
And then extend a contract worth less afterwords. It’s not like he is a Type B FA

yeah, they could do that.
i’m for offering arb to both guys, neither will make above 2MM in arb.

I wonder if Lannan argued...
that Opening Day starters average $10.9 million (or whatever the number is) whether this would resonate with an arbitration panel….

I respect that, since Tony LaRussa tried to sabotage the Cubs a couple of
seasons ago by pulling all his starters in favor of rooks when playing the Brewers while the Brewers were challenging the Cubs for the division. It was a real bush league move at the time, and I didn’t appreciate it at all, so I have to agree with Riggs on this one.
You know, TLR really really is a gigantic douchay. I just remembered that, he played dumb when he did that, too. Like, what … what’s wrong?

But the problem is our previous leadoff hitter would make outs that lasted one or two pitches a bit too frequently....
…while also specializing in the non defense threatening ground ball directly at the second baseman. You could almost put the shift and the infield in on Morgan and it wouldn’t make much of a difference.
On a desperate search for Sunshine at Nats Park. In Rizzo and Ramos we trust.

I guess it's Storen fail.
He got an out. He then gave up a broken bat single, walked a guy with an open base to set up a double play and gave up a ground ball single. Giving up a run is not doing his job and he earns the loss, but that is not exactly getting tattooed.
This one is offense fail. To get as much pitching as we got and still lose is on the offense. The outs we gave up with Desmond’s baserunning and Nyjer’s bad slide were a good part of the difference in this one.

Needs control
He’s walking 5 every 9 innings, and his ERA in AAA is 3.57 – good, but not dominant. I don’t blame the Reds for bringing him up for situational use vs. lefties, though.
