So, what does Riggs get for his defense of Nyjer this whole season?

A giant knife in the back and a crappy W/L record.

Guess the question is, is Nyjer worth saving? Do you want him back next season?

I'm hoping so

Ramos certainly is. Espinosa is not on the 40 man roster as of right now, so they’d have to add him and drop someone from the 40 man. Bringing him up for September wouldn’t hurt them in terms of service time, and it would give him a little taste of the big leagues. I still assume he starts next season in Syracuse, but he’ll almost certainly be added to the 40 man so he can get some work in Spring Training with the club, so there’s no reason not to take a look.

Not sure about the lazy thing

Larussa claimed that Rasmus has done all the work and said that he works hard. Then (to paraphrase) said that Jon Jay is doing a better job. Of course, the whole point is that the lineup should include both Jay and Rasmus, with guys like Allen Craig and Randy Winn (Winn’s utterly useless at this point, while Craig figures to be a decent fourth or fifth OF liimited to the corners) on the bench.

The Sunday thing was really odd. Rasmus was in the lineup, and then pulled from it at the last minute. He’d had the calf injury, but claims he was ready all last weekend. Larussa had been sitting him pretty frequently all season, and he’s pretty clearly their third best hitter (Pujols/Holliday). Honestly, it’s costing the Cards a shot at the playoffs.

Larussa has done this with many guys (JD Drew, Ray Lankford, Anthony Reyes, Chris Perez… there are more instances not coming to me at the moment), and the end result is always that they’re on their way out of town.

But he makes the routine plays a lot better, and he’s got the wheels to handle the position. My preference would be for Morgan to become the fourth outfielder, so……….. Who else (in house) is going to take over CF?

To me his routes are worse and he doesn't cover as much ground.

Nyjer seems to me to be better defensively than Bernadina in CF. LF it may be a push.

He could have pouted a lot more about the SS demotion and he was productive enough to net us the two AA pitchers who are helping Harrisburg stay in playoff position. I got no problems with Guzman now that he’s been traded.

Lack of maturity does not give you reason to totally burn resources, though.

Find a way to move him for something rather than just let him go. And if it’s not equal value (4th OF with defense and speed), give him a chance to try to generate some additional value.

My comments:

1. Morse is very lovable right now, but MLB scouts have a way of finding and exploiting weakness…..time will tell.
2. For the K icon — someone find a picture of the old 80’s stride-rite shoe “Zips.” The Dawg seems to be working though. From where is that dawg?
3. Related to number one — re-sign Dunn. Morse is an unknown commodity.

I guess it's Storen fail.

He got an out. He then gave up a broken bat single, walked a guy with an open base to set up a double play and gave up a ground ball single. Giving up a run is not doing his job and he earns the loss, but that is not exactly getting tattooed.

This one is offense fail. To get as much pitching as we got and still lose is on the offense. The outs we gave up with Desmond’s baserunning and Nyjer’s bad slide were a good part of the difference in this one.

He’s walking 5 every 9 innings, and his ERA in AAA is 3.57 – good, but not dominant. I don’t blame the Reds for bringing him up for situational use vs. lefties, though.
