Game 137: Was Marquis supposed to be like this all along?
Tonight's game report: Nats beat Bucs 8-1 to take 2 of 3 at PNC.
- Downright acceptable: Jason Marquis (+19.3%) goes 6 IP, giving up only 1 ER with 2 strikeouts and no walks.
- Contract-worthy? Adam Dunn (+10.1%) is 2-5 with 2 RBI, including a 4th-inning, leadoff homer that put the Nats up by 2 (+10.8%).
- He's no Lannan: Marquis (-5.7%) trails the team in offensive WPA, going 0-3 with a bases-loaded FC (out at home) and a run scored.

Yes, he was....
I’m glad the actual Marquis is returning from the injury. Fingers crossed, he’ll have a much better year in 2011.

Ditto on that.
Of course, barring a 6 or 7 WAR season next year he won’t be worth his deal, but I was positive about the deal at the time and I hope that he’ll provide at least some value from his contract. At the very least, it would be nice if Mr. Marquis could find some way in the bottom of his heart to become a Type B free agent.

I think with Stras out next year the deal is probably better than it first was...
Even thou J-Zim comes back, it’s still not the deep rotation we were hoping for next year. Im hoping we get a better solid year from both Marquis and Lannan… just to make things a bit less rocky.
Ian Desmond is my hero!
Certainly more innings will need to be eaten.

Surreal...
…I’m watching Sportscenter and I see a Guzman vs. Capps at bat with Guzman getting an RBI single. Of course, the brilliant producers for the Worldwide Leader have no idea that these two players were former teammates on a team in the invisible DC market so this storyline went unmentioned.
Capps got a heart attack save I think on that weird play in the Yahoo sidebar to your right.

I believe this is the Marquis that Rizzo had thought he signed this winter.
It goes with out saying (I’ll say it any way) that if Marquis had just pitched .500 ball the Nats would have a better record.
Oh well, this was a nice series against the Bucs. Lovin’ Espinosa. Watching him and Desi certainly can give Nationals’ fans some hope.
Patiently waiting for "next year" since 1971.
