Federal Baseball 2011 Fantasy League
Hey all you fantasy nerds, and wanna-be fantasy nerds!
Leave your name here if you want to play in Federal Baseball's 2011 Fantasy League. I'll set up a free Yahoo league once they release their 2011 product, and we can use this thread to debate rules/roster size/etc once we get to that point.
If enough people are interested, I can set up multiple leagues too. My personal preference is to keep leagues to no more than 12 teams. Perhaps we can have one keeper league and a single-season league too. There are plenty of ways to go with this once we know who is interested.
For now, please leave your name and an email address that you will use for the league. If you're not comfortable leaving an email address in this public spot, you can send to me private at natsnewsnetwork at gmail dot com. But at least leave your name in here so everyone can see who is interested in playing.
Maybe Fearless Leader and I can come up with some prize ideas too. Everyone loves prizes!
Stay tuned for more information, and please rec this thread to keep it at the top so all visitors to FB can see it.

multiple leagues
We should also looking at putting together a hardcore, say daily keeper league, and a more friendly weekly league that only takes an hour or two of attention per week.
Right now, I’m willing to put in the work it takes to fail spectacularly on a daily basis, but I have been in situations where being in a league I could ignore most days was nice.
that's probably a good idea

I would be in like a buster on a daily keeper league. Also, I’d manage the team, rather than what I did last year.

for security's sake
it’s best if you put spaces in your email address like Dave did in his post, with extra spaces. Mine I don’t care about because I have that one for posting on (mostly gaming) forums and the like, but not everyone will be using email address that they want crawled by spammers.
Prize
Do you all want to compete for a Nyjer Morgan bobblehead?
I’m silly with that kind of stuff.
It’s likely that you all will have plenty of interested fantasiers, and I will almost certainly be very very busy during the season, so I’ll toss my name in as an “emergency substitute” only.

I’m already in a keeper/auction league, so I’d like to do something a little different.

I actually put together a yahoo league last season (NatsTown) that I think a few from here actually signed up for….and it was actually pretty fun. I don’t know if I want to participate in a keeper league, but for a regular, competitive league where everyone participates all season, I am FULLY in! Roto or Head-To-Head…..doesn’t matter. I plan to get involved in both types this season.

Beware......
I fully intend to take home the gold cup! BTW….will you also be setting it up for a “live” draft? Be sure to remind everyone to be sure and set up their pre-draft listing in case they fail to make it…..otherwise, they will end up with a bunch of players they probably don’t care to have.

Seems to me that a Saturday event somewheres in Arlington with some kind of live audio/speakerphone thing would be good to do.
Now I shall focus on all of the implications of the Vernon Wells deal in my PLAN TO CONQUER THE WORLD!!!

Reason be damned. I saw that Wells has the second highest salary this season behind A-Roid.

Would be cool with either a keeper or single-season league. I play in three keepers as is, but would do a fourth. I’m cool either way, though.

Never have played fantasy baseball
Partially it’s a time commitment. Between going to Nats’ games and practicing and playing on one or two local teams, baseball already takes up a fair amount of my free time. I like the idea, but I couldn’t do more than a “once a week” kind of league. That said, I’m at least interested in knowing more about it. E-mail addy is d_c_guy at yahoo dot com.
Outside the area and time zone, but...
I’m game to play (I’ll send my e-mail privately), but as I’m outside the area (and the time zone) if the draft is real-time I may have difficulty participating. My recollection, however, is that the Yahoo version allows you to set up your preferences and then handles the draft for you.

Hey sulluzz, I played in the NatsTown league you set up last year. Team BK, 4th place.
mail: petter.hjalmarsson at gmail
Thanks for Participating!
it was a fun league, and I came in 5th place. Yeah….you were a competitive player. I was just disappointed that we had a few who quit so early on, because it makes the game less fun, with less opportunities to make trades, etc. I doubt very seriously that I will be doing the NatsTown league again this year though…..just looking forward to joining this one, or two (or ever how many are created on here). If I created another one, however, I would probably add a couple more statistical categories, such as Holds for RPs, so that Saves are not the only big category for RPs. If Holds are also used, it counterbalances the managers who grab and hold hostage elite closers (like me). I was in another league last year that did use Holds, which made it sometimes difficult to choose……an RP with a lot of holds, or the closers with saves. Closers are usually quick to go, but you can usually find an RP with a decent number of Holds. Just food for thought for David, or whoever becomes the commish in these leagues.

Nasty Boys!
That spring / summer was my first time away from home. Away from mother’s bosom. The salad days of a young military man with a bright future ahead of him. New to baseball at the time. The week before the season started I purchased a fitted Reds ball cap and had stitched in the back in simple, bold, white numbers: 1990.
Looked at the standings every single day in the USA Today. My smile broadened more each month as the Reds went stem to stern in 1st place. 1ST PLACE THROUGHOUT. The only team I feared was the Pirates. I didn’t even fear the A’s in the WS. Only the Pirates in the NLCS. I still haven’t seen a better play than the one Eric Davis made off of the wall to throw out Bobby Bonilla at 3rd base from LF when his normal position was CF.
Ah youth…

Looks like they may have to sell the Mets.

I've blogged so much about this that I'm about to throw up
I think the vast majority of guys over there @ AA (god bless ‘em) are giving the Wilpons the benefit of the doubt and don’t necessarily think that the Wilpons knew about Madoff’s scheme. Me personally, I can’t buy it. Especially due to the fact that nothing positive has come out of anything associated w/Madoff. I won’t support anything associated w/the Mets as far as giving them my money goes until the truth comes out. Part of me feels like that’s not going to happen.
