Wire Taps: Washington Nationals/Wally Backman Rumors, Nyjer Morgan vs Jayson Werth.
• Wally Backman To The Nats? Nats So Fast...So the Wally Backman to the Nationals rumors started with a report out of the New York Post and an article by Mike Puma entitled, "Backman could leave Mets for Nationals", in which the NYPost writer cited a "team source" who said, "The fiery Backman, 52, is considering the possibility of joining Davey Johnson's coaching staff with the Nationals -- likely as the third-base coach." Citing the New York Post's report, ESPNNewYork's Adam Rubin too wrote, in an article entitled, "Backman may bolt for Nats", that, "With the Mets set to interview former Nationals manager Jim Riggleman for the bench coach position Wednesday, Wally Backman may be headed the opposite direction." So would Backman, who spent five seasons playing for Davey Johnson when the current-Nats' Skipper was the Mets' manager, join the Nationals? "I was just informed that the report about Wally Backman possibly joining the #Nats as a Major League coach is not true," MLB.com's Bill Ladson (@washingnats) wrote on Twitter. Well that was wrapped up in true sitcom fashion. Tune in next week, when another rumor about the Nationals is brought up and shot down. On to the links...

Wait ,so is Rubin the wacky neighbor or is Ladson?
Oh, these madcap, mistaken-identity shenanigans! It’s like a Shakespeare comedy. Speaking of which, Posnanski is a good writer.

I'd take 2011 Werth's .232/.330/.389
over 2010 Nyjer’s .253/.319/.314 any day of the week.
Plus, Jayson wears his cap correctly.

Did I mention
Jayson stole 19 and got caught twice; Nyjer stole 34 and got caught a ridiculous 17 times? If one “adjusts” slugging and on base percentages accordingly(*), Werth’s slash is thus .232/.322/.422, and Morgan’s is .253/.279/.381.
Nyjer Morgan should just shut up.

I'm sorry,
Neither Nyjer nor Tony understand what you’re trying to say in your last sentence…
Brain: "Pinky, are you pondering what i'm pondering?"
Pinky: "Yes, ... wait, ... no, ... never mind"
Does that include when he got picked off?
If not, then you’re being generous to Nyjer. Those hurt so bad.
Skins rule
Me too
Werth’s stats may have been lower, but he had more of a positive contribution than Morgan ever had. So, he’s in the playoffs, big deal. I say, good riddance. Let’s see how long he can keep this goodwill from the Brewers going.
Between Werth and T-Plush, I’d definitely take Werth.
That's not the point
Nyjer is under the impression he performed better than Jayson.
He didn’t.

I miss Nyjer like I'd miss a bad case o' piles
For all his mouthy me-me-me-me-me BS, he’s nothing more that an un-coachable, weak-hitting busher with no arm. Pathetic, actually, and somebody said it well here: soon as things head south for Milwaukee (which they will, and very shortly), folks there will rapidly fall out of love with Nyjer.
"On my tombstone just write, 'The sorest loser that ever lived.'" - Earl Weaver
Just Wait
The story of the Milwaukee love affair with Nyjer is not over. Enjoy the moment, Nyjer. I’m not sure it will end in a long-term marriage. Let’s see where he is next year.
As long as they're winning he'll be fine
But thats the thing, they’re not going to keep winning forever. As soon as they hit a rough patch we’re gonna start to see more of what made him so infamous here. On the other hand though, I definitely remember probably 75% of the Nats fan base saying he was worthless and incapable of putting up good numbers. So thats just another reason not to write our guys off after rough stretches.
Whats the frequency, Kenneth?
