Wire Taps: Friday Washington Nationals Links, Tweets, Quotes, Etc. Bryce Harper Walk-Off.

PHOENIX, AZ - JULY 08: T-shits for Bryce Harper are sold at MLB Fan Fest at the Phoenix Convention Center on July 8, 2011 in Phoenix, Arizona. The 2011 MLB All-Star game will be held on July 12, at Chase Field. (Photo by Christian Petersen/Getty Images)

• So, Bryce Harper hit a 3-run walk-off HR Thursday to lift the Scottsdale Scorpions to an 8-7 win over the Mesa Solar Sox. Harper's 2 for 5 Thursday gave the left-handed hitting Nats' prospect hits in eight-straight games and nine of his last 10. The just-turned-19-year-old outfielder now has a .260/.333/.520 slash through 13 games and 50 at bats in which he's hit two doubles and three HR's. Five innings before Harper won the game for Scottsdale, the Nationals' 2011 3rd Round pick Matt Purke pitched for the third time this Fall, and gave up 4 hits and 3 runs, all earned in 1.0 IP. All the hits and runs came with two outs. Purke threw 24 pitches, 14 of them strikes, gave up two two-out singles, a two-run double and an RBI single that gave the Mesa Solar Sox a 7-5 lead which held up until Harper came through in the home-half of the ninth. Here's the Gameday Box Score. Here are Friday's links and stuff...

a pebble?

you’ll have to explain that one to me….not being a native Washingtonian, I am unfamiliar with what you mean. In fact, the only thing I am truly familiar with, concerning the 1924 World Series and the Washington Senators, is that it was won by the Senators, and I think Walter Johnson was the WP….is that correct?

Yes, Walter Johnson got the win in game 7

after taking the losses in Game 1 (12 IP, 12 K, 6 BB, 16 hits, 3 ER of 4 runs) and Game 5 (8 IP, 3 K, 2 BB, 13 hits, 3 ER of 6 runs), Johnson came in to pitch the 9th through 12th innings of Game 7 (4 IP, 5K, 3 BB, 3 hits, 0 ER of 0 runs). Final line for the series – 2.25 ERA in 24 innings with 20 strikeouts and a 1-2 record and a World Series ring.

yes, Johnson won that final game in extras as a relief pitcher.......

you really have to read a full game description…..there are excerpts from a book about it, but the name and link escapes me…

Wiki: "In Game 7, with the Senators behind 3–1 in the eighth, Bucky Harris (ed. player/manager) hit a routine ground ball to third which hit a pebble and took a bad hop over Giants third baseman Freddie Lindstrom. Two runners scored on the play, tying the score at three. Walter Johnson then came in to pitch the ninth, and held the Giants scoreless into extra innings. With the score still 3–3, Washington came up in the twelfth. With one out, and runners on first and second, Earl McNeely hit another grounder at Lindstrom, and again the ball took a bad hop, scoring Muddy Ruel with the Series-winning run.

This World Series was the only one won by the franchise during its time in Washington. The seventh game is widely considered to be one of the most dramatic games in Series history."

I went on a tour of Nats Park where Coach (the guy who used to dance to "Sweet Caroline"...

…retold the story of Game 7 of the 1924 series in detail. If you ever have a chance to take a tour with him, take it.

Vivian Jaffe: "Have you ever transcended space and time?"

Coach

that guy is one of my favorites, let me move up to front row seats at a game I went to. I was disapointed that I didnt see him this past season.

He's also the only usher I know who would make folks wait til between AB's to return to seats...

One game I sat in his section was the most enjoyable game experience I’ve had. Didn’t miss a single pitch.

I'm pretty sure I saw him there last year, but I haven't sat down that low in a while...

That was a StubHub gift to myself, I got a good deal on a pricy seat 20 rows off the field behind home.

Albert Markovski: "Yes. No. Uh, time, not space... No, I don't know what you're talking about."

He's there.

His schtick has changed from Sweet Caroline to Tom Jones’ It’s Not Unusual.

One of the left field guys does this as well, which I love.

It’s been pretty much law at hockey games for as long as I can remember, I’m glad other places are starting to do it more.
