When and will the Nats sign Zimmerman?
With all the hubbub about the Nats efforts in this winter's free agent sweepstakes, it seems to me that we have forgotten about another potential issue? Why haven't the Nats resigned Ryan Zimmerman? Has anyone else beside myself, been asking themselves that question? Please correct if I am wrong, but didn't Zimmerman say that he did not like to talk contract during the season and looked to this winter to get a new contract? I believe, he also indicated that if the Nats did not sign him before the start of the 2012 season, he will probably become a free agent next winter. I remind folks that the Phillies need a new third baseman, and probably would be more than accommodating to sign Zim for whatever he wanted. So what has any one else heard on this matter?

Isn't Zim up for FA after 2013?
I could be wrong. Anyway, the sooner the better for this fan.
Cot's has Zim signed through 2013
The team will pay him $12.1 million in 2012 and $14.1 million in 2013.
Personal best guess is that we will give him an extension sometime after trade deadline 2012.

I'm not so sure that Zimmerman wants to push hard for a contract right now
He just finished a down year. Perhaps he feels that he should be compensated as if the injury didn’t happen, and his production was normal.
Instead, I think it would be more reasonable to set some parameters for the discussion. IE if Zimm is playing like normal his extention will look like $XX million per year over 6-7 years. If he isn’t playing as well, it would look like Y($XX million per year over timeframe).
How does 6-yrs at about $14m per sound?
Is that in the ballpark people are thinking? That’s doable, right? Is it important to stagger from the end of Werth’s to avoid everything being frozen up?
He will want a 10-12 year deal in exchange for all the land east of the Mississippi River
…and since we can’t move the Mississippi River, we shall have to hand it over, and move Rendon instead. If not…
No. I refuse to think about it.

Parameters? I got yer parameters, right here
Zimm. For. Life. We gotta’ do it, and we gotta’ do it in 2012. If not, he walks in 2013.
Know how many other teams in MLB would give their right and left tit – and everything in between – to have Zimm at the hot corner? Less’ee, how many teams are there…?
We lose Zimm, we lose more than the Face of the Franchise – we lose the heart, soul, sinew…and stop, I can’t take it anymore. I’m tearin’ up, just thinkin’ about it.
Seriously, man. I don’t give a sh*t if we lose the Washington Monument under some Rule 5, Level A, convoluted BS, and they move the beloved symbol of our national heritage to The People’s Democratic Republic of San Francisco – we must not lose Ryan Zimmerman. Period.
PS And I do not want to hear one word about no Rendon.

If Zimmerman is going to want $15M+ per year for a decade,
he better damn well prove that he can play at least 150 games a season.

I love that we have a player who many say this about.
Zimm. For. Life.
It’s even better that the player named actually is one of the best player in the game, instead of one with just a cult fanbase(i.e. Colt Brennan)

Who the heck
is Colt Brennan?

A Quarterback, Former 6th String Draft Choice of the local NFL Franchise
Right now, the nearest Nationals parallel that I can think of is Corey Brown. He has a few supporters yet, people who think he’s going to be the CF of the future, because of his record in AA baseball and a good few weeks in AAA … “oooh, just think if he could do that here” sort of thing. Brennan had an amazing record as a college QB running a run & shoot style offense out of the shotgun formation, and also had a couple of moments in preseason football (spring training).
And since the backup QB is almost inevitably the most popular player in town, a “Cult of Colt” was born.
