Washington Nationals' Lefty Gio Gonzalez Trusts His Fastball.
"One thing that [Gio] Gonzalez did last season was change his approach against right-handed hitters. In 2009, when he was ahead 0-2 or 1-2 on a righty, he threw his fastball only 25 percent of the time.
"In 2010, he upped that rate to 35 percent, then upped it again to 47 percent last season."

just great.........now they've given away his secret....
I suppose the sub-stat would be if they K’d swinging at the FB out of the zone and curve in the dirt, or watched the curveball drop in….and which one they hit for that .224 BA…

I’m going to say this one last time. RHP Chien-Ming Wang is not fighting for a rotation spot. He is in the rotation.

@washingnats so the final spot is either Lannan or Detwiler. Correct?

@MileHighMLB I said this last week. Detwiler is in the rotation. I predict Lannan will be traded.

Ladson really pisses me off sometimes
He hears one thing, and treats it as fact. Rember his saying the Nats were out on Gio a few weeks ago. He is just a little to sure of his sources, and gets mad when people ask him something that dosent go with his sources

That being said, I dont hate Ladson, only sometimes

I figure they feed Ladson what they want the public to hear....
a grain of salt with signings, but he’s usually okay with roster moves and such….poor Bambi’s getting bad news from all over…

I have real trouble believing that Lannan is going to get dealt anytime soon
After the Gonzalez trade, the Nationals’ have a lot less of a safety net on starting pitching. Detwiler has a higher ceiling than Lannan, true, but the risk is much greater. And if they deal Lannan and Detwiler flames out (or someone, including Detwiler, gets hurt) then they are looking at Gorzelanny, Stammen or Maya. And with the vagaries of pitching and Strasburg on an innings limit, all three of them would probably get MLB starts. Gulp.
It's hard to stomach the thought of those blood stains on your eyes
with both Gio and John in the Nats rotation.

I view the jury as still out on Gio
His K rates and stuff are much better than Lannan’s, so I’m not consigning him to the bleeding eyeball list just yet :-)
I assume Detwiler as long man in the 'pen until something bad happens...
Maya pitched one Winter league inning and stopped due to soreness, so I don’t see Rizzo trading Lannan.

Yeah, I really dont see then trading Lannan
when the depth behind him is guy like Yunesky Maya, Craig Stammen, Erik Arnesen, Tom Gorzelanny, and Matt Buschmann
MOAR SEVERINO!
I've always liked Stammen, but the rest frighten the local wildlife, so I'd rather keep dependable, average Bambi around...

I still say Stammen will make a great reliver
just not as a starter. Arnsen and Buschmann could be decent, but you dont want to rely on them
MOAR SEVERINO!
Does anyone thing Wang showed enough to guarantee him a spot in the rotation? I mean Lannan was much better than Wang last season. Yes, Wang looked better towards the end of the season, but is a few good starts enough to earn him a spot without having to fight for it? I think Lannan has earned a spot, and Wang and Det should be fighting for spot number 5.

At least based on his comments toward the end of the season.
