Around SBN: NFL Players Ready To Welcome Gay Teammate

Riggleman: "Well just like you said you know I’m really anxious to see him [Yunesky Maya] this spring. I thought even though it didn’t work out for him particularly well in terms of his record and his ERA there were a lot of things that myself and Steve McCatty were watching him pitch and we felt like you know this guy has a lot of guts."

Less guts, more positive measurable indicators of pitching performance.

Please.

Thank you.

Definitely interested to see if the DWL Legend's strong winter translates...

Won’t be surprised if he’s given time at Triple-A either…

Vivian Jaffe: "Have you ever transcended space and time?"
Albert Markovski: "Yes. No. Uh, time, not space... No, I don't know what you're talking about."

With Hernandez, Zimmermann, Lannan, Marquis, and Gorzelanny there doesn’t appear to be much room for Maya. I guess if he is excellent and Lannan or Gorzelanny are awful then one of them Lannan could go to the minors and Gorzelanny could go to the bullpen to make a spot.

I think it’s Gorzelanny to the bullpen. Wonder if they’d consider Maya in a Batista like role to start. All I know is that the silence surrounding Craig Stammen and the new bullpen and starting pitcher acquisitions cannot be good for his chances.

Oh, no you didn't, Riggleman ...

Talking about Jason Werth, this phrase escaped his lips: “He’s been known to drop a bunt.”

If Werth bunts this year, Riggleman, I’m going to march down to the dugout and … OK, well, probably get my butt kicked by Popeye … but I shall express my indignation nonetheless!

+1

If you have your 126M supposed bopper bunt for anyone, that should be grounds for firing.

"Bopper"

I remember the days when the Nats actually had a “bopper” on the team….

Yeah, but he couldn’t bunt! So now he’s gone!

I'm now convinced

That crummy ballplayers that become managers continue the practice of bad baseball because that’s all they were good at.

I thought that some of the best managers were typically bench-warmers

the wisdom being, sitting on the bench all the time gave one better insight into how it’s like to be a manager. I do know that some of the best players who became managers were terrible at it — mostly because (again, conventional wisdom) they cannot understand what it’s like to try hard but fail miserably nonetheless.

True

but great players are sometimes great managers, which is probably more success than they have in the other sports. Hell even Rose was over .500 as a manager.
