Washington Nationals Sign Alex Cintron To Minor League Deal.
Within the last hour both SI.com's Jon Heyman (@SI_JonHeyman) and MLB.com's Bill Ladson (@washingnats) have reported that the Washington Nationals have signed 32-year-old infielder Alex Cintron to a minor league deal. Cintron played 21 games with Washington in 2009, hitting in just 2 of 26 at bats with the Nats.

Syracuse fans let out a big cheer that their replacement for Orr is getting locked and loaded. At least I hope that’s all this is.

I'm confused

Says he’s going to the Mets??.
Roger Bernadina For LF!
Speaking of dates ...
Patrick seems to think Citron played for this club LAST YEAR!!!? Why is it that so many Nats fans can’t either escape 2005 or the traumatic losing years that followed? PTSD Nats fans.
Yeah, I thought I was losing my marbles for a second there...
Anyway, this one baffles me. More OD?

Thanks, Plebescite. You're always very helpful.

You know, I'm getting a bad feeling about this
Last year when I was decrying the slew of aged wanna-be’s and never-wases who were getting signed to show up at Spring Training, I was repeatedly reassured that I was overreacting: “they’re minor league deals, don’t worry!” I was told. And yet, as before, some of those lousy actors managed to get a job with the team at season’s start. It scared me then that the age of the “Rob Mackowiaks” of the world donning Nats uniforms had not, in fact, ended. It scares me now that these patterns seem to be being repeated.

There's probably squadoosh at Syracuse that they can bring up in emergency situations
Pete Orr is gone now, and I don’t know where they would go within the organization for replacement level talent. You probably need some kind of insurance if one of the current middle infielders (Hairston [who might be playing some outfield], Espinosa, or Desmond) get hurt. After that, isn’t it pretty much a cattle call? Ever since The General has expressed some frustration with his likely playing time, I get the sense that they’d like to have someone else they can call upon who won’t be dissatisfied.
That said, Cintron is a real headscratcher.

I think I'd rather see Michael Martinez take the role
He had a pretty good (albeit short) run at AAA last year. At least he may still demonstrate value.

Michael Martinez got rule 5'ed to Philly last I heard
Could certainly get returned, though.

Oh yeah.
Pity. But at least the got Alex Cintron!

I bet that Rizzo would rather have Martinez as well
Just not enough to deep six another player off of the 40 man roster. Martinez was subject to Rule 5, Cintron wasn’t. Even if Cintron hangs on at Syracuse, I’d bet that if Martinez gets returned the Nats cut Cintron and put Martinez in Syracuse.
