• Toward the end of an interview on the Sirius/XM MLB Network Radio show "Inside Pitch" with Jim Bowden and Casey Stern on Monday afternoon which focused mainly on plays at the plate and collisions like the one which ended the Giants' backstop Buster Posey's 2011 season, Nats' Assistant GM & VP of Player Development Bob Boone, a former major league catcher himself (if you didn't know that), was asked by the former Nationals' GM to predict when Washington's top prospect, 2010 no.1 overall pick Bryce Harper would be moved up from Class-A Hagerstown to Double-A Harrisburg. After going 2 for 3 with a walk on Monday, the 18-year-old phenom has a .326/.412/.584 slash line in 49 games and 178 at bats in which he's collected 13 doubles, 11 HR's, 35 RBI's, seven stolen bases (in 11 attempts), 26 walks and 43 K's. Mr. Boone's response:
Bob Boone: "Uh...whenever. [laughs] He's gonna make a move this year. If you've watched him, he just came through a session, he homered yesterday, but he just came through a session where he went from .380 to .318. So, if you see him in that time, you go, well...you know? I think the key is, you want to place him where you're awfully confident that he's going to have some success. You don't want to put him in a place where he might go backwards. It's pretty exciting that he's making this move as a first-year player, and you know, certainly the goal is to get him to the big leagues as soon as possible, but you sure want to make sure that there's no setbacks so it takes longer. What's the magic number? I don't know. You certainly would have it I know as a GM, you would have it. But I would say, you probably don't have to hold your breath too long."
