Rotation Rankings: Week Five
The Nats' starters have been improving all year, and they are now up to #8 in the Rotation Rankings. Jason Marquis' shutout was nice, but the more impressive stat is that the rotation averaged 7 innings pitched per start. They now have a 3.66 ERA and 1.29 WHIP for the season.

Indeed.
The media’s focus on the silly Streak obscured the fact that, for the first month+, the rotation hadn’t had anyone go past the sixth. Fortunately, that’s changed in the past week or so. Thanks to Lannan, the Streak is off the table and things like this can start getting the attention they deserve. Hopefully the “colleciton of #5 starters” can keep this up. If/when the offense starts to pick up, third isn’t out of the question.

Pinky: "Yes, but isn't a cucumber that small called a gherkin?"
