There was a LOT to feel good about in this game...
  • Pudge standing O and another hit…and GREAT game-calling
  • Stras’ dominance (that we were pretty sure would be there next year, but were a little unsure until today)
  • Some timely hits
  • Some good D
  • Clip being Clip…in spades
  • Drew being Drew…and how!
  • NO appearances by those Ratzenfratzen RISP-poaching PIGS!!!
  • AND it was Curly W # 80….EIGHTY WINS…80!!!

I’m happy …and sad it’s over for the season…can’t wait until 2012!

For all the smiles and manhugs and high fives and backpatting in that Natz “winning 80th” line out on the tore-up STADIU_ field. Natz are a fun team to cheer for.

If y'ax me, between Riggleman and Davey, managerial incompetence cost us a net 10 games this year

But why grind my teeth over it? It’s done. We will come back stronger next year.

There is no way the Nats were a 90-win team this year.

That could be said about every manager in the league

If only Joe Maddon didn’t put {insert name here} in that one game that one time, the Rays would have the AL WC locked up. See it can even be said about the best manager around. You can’t judge a manager on how many games you think he specifically “lost,” because according to their respective fans every single manager is responsible for every bullpen loss. You just have to look at the overall perfomance. And overall, we learned alot about the team without sacrificing much at all in the win column.

Whats the frequency, Kenneth?

Two words: Doug Slaten

Not enough? Two more: Matt Stares.

Without question, the quality of coaching and level of play did improve dramatically with DJ at the helm. No more collisions on fly-balls and pop-ups, fewer missed cut-off men, and a lot less bone-headed base-running. Overall, fewer disappointments in the second half of the season, and a lot fewer than the season before, but sorry – fewer disappointments is not good enough.

Check that, I’m not sorry. I like to win. That’s just the way it is. Much as I appreciate people telling me what I “can’t judge,” and “have to look at,” I still say winning is everything, and I feel like we could have done more of it this year.

But on the brighter side of things, I am confident that we WILL win 90 games next year. Maybe more. Play-offs? Not out of the question – that is, if ‘Cat doesn’t get hired away.

Oooh, I hate That Cat.

DFA That Cat! Or else let Werth and the bullpen have at him.

I tell ye', there's some semi-perfidious stuff going on v Teddy

No, fools - Steve McCatty

He has performed wonderfully well – in this (if I ain’t mistaken), his first big league shot. Your humble servant spotted him way back last year, and I came in for much abuse for prematurely naming him the best pichin coach in all of MLB. Well, now there can be no doubt – and I just hope we keep him is all.

Amazing night of baseball all around

But I was so happy for how the Nats finished it up yesterday that I got more pleasure in the Nats victory than in any of that other historical stuff going on.

Strasburg, while probably helped out by the shadows somewhat, is definitely “back” (much prefer P2K to P2C). 10 SO’s. Dominant.

Speaking of P2C, did y’all notice that our 2-run inning was accomplished with first-pitch balls-in-play for each of the five batters Volstad saw? Five pitches, three hits, a sacrifice, and a double play. First time I can remember ever seeing that.

Loved the man-hugs at the end of the game – McCatty seemed to get extra-long ones. This team has chemistry.

CANNOT wait for April to arrive!
