Harrisburg Senators' left-hander Danny Rosenbaum was named the Double-A Eastern League's Pitcher of the Week today. Rosenbaum threw the Eastern League's first complete game last Wednesday in his third start of the year and as the Eastern League's press release noted, "He retired 13 straight batters after surrendering a bunt single with one out in the top of the third inning and went on to allow just one unearned run on four hits while recording nine strikeouts, including striking out four of the final seven batters he faced."

In the post game report on Rosenbaum's start and the Senators' 7-1 win over the Altoona Curve last week, MiLB.com's David Heck wrote that two years ago when the current-Sens' starter, a 24-year-old '09 22nd pick out of Xavier, split his time between Class-A Hagerstown and Potomac in his first full pro season, posting a (2-5) record 2.32 ERA, 3.20 FIP, 28 walks (2.85 BB/9) and 85 K's (7.57 K/9) in 18 starts and 101.0 IP with the Suns and a (3-2) record with a 2.09 ERA, 3.27 FIP, 13 walks (2.72 BB/9) and 31 K's (6.49 K/9) over eight games, seven starts and 43.0 IP with the high-A P-Nats, Rosenbaum, "... could spot his fastball wherever he wanted to."

Last season, when Rosenbaum was (6-5) with a 2.59 ERA, 3.05 FIP, 41 walks (2.80 BB/9) and 108 K's (7.36 K/9) in 20 games, 19 starts and 132.0 IP with Class-A Potomac and (3-1) with a 2.29 ERA, 2.82 FIP, 11 walks (2.52 BB/9) and 27 K's (6.18 K/9) in six starts and 39.1 IP for the Double-A Senators, MiLB.com's Mr. Heck wrote that Rosenbaum, "... leaned on his breaking pitches more often," but now this year, three starts into the 2012 campaign back at Double-A, "... just about everything seems to be working for the 24-year-old left-hander."

Rosenbaum's (2-0) in three starts after last Wednesday's outing, with no walks, 16 K's (6.64 K/9), a 1.25 ERA and a 2.32 FIP in 21.2 IP. Asked to describe his approach, Rosenbaum told MiLB.com's Mr. Heck, as quoted in the article entitled, "Rosenbaum dazzles in complete game", that he just tried, "'... to keep the ball down in the zone, that's all they preach to us. Just try to live at the knees. A couple times, I came up in the zone when I was ahead just trying to get a swing-and-miss, but I was able to stay low. It gave my infielders a chance to make plays, which was great. It gave me a lot of confidence.'" Rosenbaum's line from last Wednesday: 9.0 IP, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 9 K's, 95 pitches, 71 strikes, 14/1 GO/FO. The left-hander got 13 ground ball outs in his first start of the year and 10 the second time out. The approach seems to be working, except for the one error in his last start, on a two-out grounder to short which led to the unearned run scoring and kept him from having a complete game shutout. The complete game and Pitcher of the Week honor will have to be enough.

Possible back-of-rotation starter or useful relief option in a year or two.
