Major League Baseball announced this afternoon that 23-year-old Washington Nationals' right-hander Stephen Strasburg was named the NL Pitcher of the Month for the first month of the season after finishing April with a (2-0) record, a 1.13 ERA, 1.66 FIP, three walks (1.69 BB/9) and 34 K's (9.56 K/9) in five starts and 32.0 IP. The '09 no.1 overall pick finished the month with a 7.0 inning outing in LA in which he held the Dodgers to five hits and one earned run while striking out nine batters without allowing a walk. The news was announced via Twitter this afternoon via @Nationals:

Also announced: LA Dodgers' slugger Matt Kemp was named the NL Player of the Month and Phillies' reliever Jonathan Paplebon was the "Delivery Man" of the month while D-Backs' lefty Wade Miley was the NL Rookie of the Month.
Stephen Strasburg's next start is scheduled for Friday night against the Philadelphia Phillies.
