The Atlanta Braves had a 1-0 lead and a runner on first with one out in the fifth when Jason Heyward hit a line drive to left on a 1-0 sinker for what looked like an extra base hit if it didn't clear the wall. Washington Nationals' outfielder Roger Bernadina sprinted toward the GEICO sign on the left field fence in Turner Field and leapt from halfway across the warning track, made the catch and collided with the wall, slamming his right shoulder hard but holding on to the ball as he fell to the dirt. [CHOMP!] The Nats' 28-year-old outfielder bounced back up and threw it in, but then slowly crumbled, bending at the hips as he held his right shoulder and eventually bending at the knees too and crouching down in the left field grass as the pain set in... Jason Heyward got robbed. The Shark was fine. Bernadina stayed in the game...

Nats' skipper Davey Johnson told reporters afterwards that his outfielder was fine in spite of what looked like a hard collision with the wall. "It was his right shoulder," Johnson said, "He hit it with his right shoulder. I went out there [slowly] hoping he'd get better. He was fine. A little longer run than I wanted, but it was fine." Oh, Davey. No update on the condition of the Shark's right pectoral fin, but he's not in the lineup tonight for game two of three in Atlanta. Will update if the Nationals' manager mentions any Shark-related news. Steve Lombardozzi's starting in left as the Nats take on the Braves and right-hander Tommy Hanson. 4:05 pm EDT this afternoon on FOX, if you're not in the D.C. area you might be in for a disappointment of one sort and a treat of another if you can still listen to Charlie and Dave even though some might be FOX'd out...
