• ALCS Game 4 - The Boston Red Sox have a 2-1 lead over the defending American League Champions heading into Game 4 of the ALCS. Last night in Detroit's Comerica Park, the Sox beat the Tigers 1-0 with the help of a commanding performance by John Lackey (6 1/3 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 8 Ks). Tonight it's Jake Peavy on the mound for the visiting Red Sox against the Tigers' Doug Fister. Peavy, 32, makes the fourth postseason start of his career after giving up a run on five hits in 5 2/3 IP in the ALDS with Tampa Bay. The Sox' starter talked yesterday about how your game plan going in to a start might have to change quickly.
"You certainly go in with a pretty hard game plan and what you're going to do in certain situations," Peavy explained. "And the game kind of dictates when you go to what you feel like is your strength against their weakness and when do you kind of tip your hand in how you're going to get guys out. Certainly it's dictated by the score, the inning, and what the situation you're in at that given time."
Fister, 29, makes his second start of the 2013 postseason after holding the Oakland A's to three runs on seven hits in 6 IP in the ALDS. After watching the Red Sox rally in Game 2, Fister told reporters yesterday he learned a lot about his opponents' never-say-die approach. "They compete until the last out and it showed that Boston did that the last game, obviously. So we've got to go out there and we've got to play every out and make sure that we get everything done." If they don't, Fister and the Tigers are going to find themselves in a tough position...
Game Time 8:00 PM EDT from Detroit.
