• ALCS Game 5 - The Detroit Tigers evened things up at 2-2 in the ALCS with the Boston Red Sox with a 7-3 win last night in Comerica Park. A five-run second provided all the offense the Tigers needed and Doug Fister held the Red Sox to one run on eight hits in six innings on the mound in which he walked one and struck out eight. Tonight it's Anibal Sanchez vs Jon Lester in Detroit in Game 5. Sanchez threw six scoreless and hitless in Game 1 of the series with the Sox, walking six and striking out 12 before he was lifted.
Sanchez talked to reporters yesterday about all the walks he issued, which he explained were a result of too much movement. "I think my pitches moved really good that day," Sanchez said, "And that's why I don't ‑‑ when they don't swing, the balls go down. And another one just when I throw a strike ‑‑ I was ahead on the count, helped me to strike them out the guy, I think that was the key."
Jon Lester, in his second start of the postseason this year, gave up six hits and one earned run in 6 1/3 IP opposite Sanchez in Game 1, taking the loss in what ended up a 1-0 game in the Tigers' favor. The 29-year-old lefty said that he wasn't too concerned about facing Detroit again so soon after Game 1 and didn't think it was in either side's favor.
"I don't know about advantage one way or the other," the Red Sox' left-hander said, "I know we'll come up with our game plan, whatever that is, and try and go and execute it. And I'm sure they're going to do the same thing."
Game Time 8:00 PM EDT from Detroit.
