Nationals' '06 1st Round Pick Chris Marrero Signs With Orioles

USA TODAY Sports

Chris Marrero was the Washington Nationals' second 1st Round pick after Ryan Zimmerman in 2005. After eight seasons in the organization, Marrero became a minor league free agent in the first week of November. He has reportedly signed a deal with the Baltimore Orioles.

The Washington Nationals outrighted 25-year-old, 2006 1st Round pick Chris Marrero to Triple-A Syracuse back on October 24th, following a 2013 campaign with the Nats' top affiliate at Triple-A Syracuse which saw the 6'3'', 230 lb first baseman put up a .270/.331/.402 line with 17 doubles and 11 HRs in 111 games and 450 plate appearances for the Chiefs:

Marrero became a minor league free agent on November 5, 2013 after finishing his eighth season in the Nats' organization. In those eight minor league seasons, he posted a .282/.350/.445 line in 784 games and 3,241 plate appearances. In the majors, however, Marrero put up a .232/.256/.272 line in 39 games and 133 PAs. A scout who talked to Washington Post writer Adam Kilgore after Marrero was outrighted in October said he wouldn't give up on the '06 1st Round pick just yet:

According to a report by Baseball America's Matt Eddy today, an AL team is going to take a chance. Marrero has reportedly signed a deal with the Nationals' regional rivals from Baltimore:
