In the event that Masahiro Tanaka is posted by the Rakuten Eagles, should the Nats pony up the $20m buy-in to negotiate with him, and if so how much should they offer? Any thought to where the hurler could eventually land?
In the event that Masahiro Tanaka is not posted by the Rakuten Eagles, should Rizzo dangle one of the rotation aces in an effort to pry a premium package of players? Or would the returns not be worth it?
Personally, I say put up the fee just the play the game in case some miracle happens, and at least assure the Yankees pay full freight on the guy if the want him so badly. If he's not posted, try to wring something out of the Yankees, if there's anything to be had. Can't say I'm familiar with their system, though.
