Washington Nationals' right-hander Jordan Zimmermann meets the New York Mets this afternoon at 1:05 pm EDT in Viera, Florida's Space Coast Stadium in a game that is being broadcast on 1580 AM in the nation's capital, while a split squad of Nats travel to the Houston Astros' Spring home for another Grapefruit League game. We'll be concentrating on Zimmermann's start here since it's on the air and Charlie and Dave are calling things. Who's going to miss C&D, and if you didn't hear the news during the last broadcast, rumor has it that some of our dreams may have come true, since it will apparently be possible to sync your MLB.tv broadcast up with C&D's audio this year when you're watching the Nats. No offense to Bob and F.P., we're just C&D fans around here.
Zimmermann's making his fourth start of the Spring today. The 26-year-old right-hander did get knocked around a bit during his last start, when he reportedly was dealing with a bit of the "dead arm", which is not totally unexpected at this time of year. In 9.0 innings of work so far, Zimmermann's given up 16 hits, three walks and 11 runs, while collecting six Ks. Zimmermann's already faced the Marlins and Braves this Spring, but today he makes it three of four NL East rivals when he takes on the Mets, looking to recover from the nine-hit, eight-run outing on his last trip to the hill. Look out, Metsies, probably be an angry Zim out there on the mound.
Ross Ohlendorf gets the start against Houston in the other game this afternoon. That game is available via Gameday Audio if you're a subscriber at MLB.com
