New Washington Nationals' starter Dan Haren makes his fourth Grapefruit League start this afternoon at 1:05 pm EST from Jupiter, Florida's Roger Dean Stadium, where he'll face the St. Louis Cardinals that originally selected him out of Pepperdine in the 2nd Round of the 2001 Draft. Haren vs the Cards, and it's on MLB.tv.
Jupiter, Florida's Roger Dean Stadium is the site for today's Grapefruit League game between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Washington Nationals. New Nats' right-hander Dan Haren makes his fourth start of the Spring at 1:05 pm EST in a game that's available on MLB.tv, and it's being replayed later tonight on the MLB Network if you can't watch today. Haren takes on the team that originally drafted him out of Pepperdine in the 2nd Round of the 2001 Draft, facing a Cardinals franchise he pitched for in his first two major league seasons before being dealt to Oakland in the trade that brought Mark Mulder to the Cards. In three starts and 9.0 IP so far this Spring, the 32-year-old Haren has allowed nine hits and four runs, all earned, while walking just one batter and striking out seven. It will be interesting to see the radar gun readings if today's broadcast has them so Haren's much-discussed velocity can be examined. Will he be throwing the 90-91 mph fastball the Nats want or the 88-89 mph heater he was throwing last year? Keep your eyes on the radar while you're watching today's game. Here's the lineup for this afternoon's affair, which is, I repeat, Is. On. MLB.tv...
• Friday's Nats' Lineup vs the Cards:
Today's #Nationals lineup at STL: Lombo 4, Suzuki 2, Moore 9, Tracy DH, Marrero 3, Rivero 5, Brown 8, Owings 7, Walters 6. Haren P— Nationals PR (@NationalsPR) March 15, 2013
A few other notes from this morning's conversation with Nats' skipper Davey Johnson. Ryan Zimmerman's going to be taking the field for the first time this Spring sooner than later and it doesn't look like Christian Garcia is going to be ready for Opening Day and Joe Namath's in the park:
Ryan Zimmerman told Davey he had a great day throwing yesterday. Depending on how he feels today, he could play 3 inn. Saturday night.— Amanda Comak (@acomak) March 15, 2013
Not a surprise, but Davey says "no possibility" Christian Garcia opens season in #Nats bullpen. Will stay in Viera.— Mark Zuckerman (@ZuckermanCSN) March 15, 2013
