Washington Nationals Place Ryan Zimmerman On DL; Call Anthony Rendon Up From Double-A

USA TODAY Sports

There were reports during today's game that Washington Nationals' prospect Anthony Rendon had been a late scratch from a game for Double-A Harrisburg and after the Nats 7-6 win over the Mets, the Nationals announced that they had called their 2011 1st Round pick up to make his MLB debut.

Before today's game the Washington Nationals announced that injured third baseman Ryan Zimmerman was going to get an MRI on his left hamstring after he was out of the lineup for a second straight game in New York. When the following tweet from Patriot-News Harrisburg Senators beat writer Geoff Morrow went out on Twitter, as instructed, the speculation began on the internet:

There was no word on the results of Ryan Zimmerman's MRI at that point and an "official" with the team told the Washington Post's Adam Kilgore that there was nothing to the chatter:

That quieted things down for the rest of the Nationals' win over the New York Mets, but as soon as the game ended, the Nats made the following announcement via Twitter:

Davey Johnson apparently broke the news in his post game press conference. With Zimmerman headed to the DL, the Nats decided to call their top prospect up from Double-A to make his MLB debut and according to the WaPost's Mr. Kilgore, Anthony Rendon is coming up to play:

Rendon impressed everyone in Spring Training, going 12 for 32 (.375/.412/.875) in 13 games with four doubles and four home runs before he was sent to minor league camp and eventually Double-A Harrisburg to start his second pro season. With the Senators team he ended his first pro campaign playing for after recovering from an ankle injury, Rendon was 14 for 48, (.292/.462/.500) with four doubles and two home runs in 14 games and 65 plate appearances so far this season over which he had 14 walks and just nine Ks. No official word on if he'll make his MLB debut tomorrow, but you have to imagine the Nationals will have a new third baseman on the hot corner for the series finale with NY.

Forget about "Winter"... RENDON IS COMING!!!
