I was at the Dodgers game last night. There were two great opportunities to hit n run like most of the year where Davey is just too stuck in his ways to hit n run. It was the first inning and Span just walked and Rendon was at bat. There are no outs. Span is a guy on a hit n run can get to 3rd from 1st pretty easily. Rendon is a guy hits the ball the opposite way. These two are ideal hit n run guys. The Hit N Run also keeps you out of the double play. Davey chooses not to hit n run and Rendon hits into a double play.
Another situation with Lombo on first and one out. Span is up to bat. Again ideal hit n run situation because how many times have we seen span ground out right to where the 1st baseman is playing when he is not holding the runner on. Again no hit n run.
The great managers in all sports put their egos aside and do what fits their players strengths. Also when your a manager and your team is struggling to score runs doing the same thing over again and expecting different results is the definition of insanity
