Stephen Strasburg Scratched? Nationals' RHP Not In Lineup Released By Nats

Patrick McDermott

There's no word yet on why Stephen Strasburg was not listed as the starter when the Washington Nationals released the lineup for the first game of three with the Philadelphia Phillies tonight in Nationals Park.

Washington Nationals' manager Davey Johnson meets with reporters approximately three hours before every home game in Nationals Park. The big story this afternoon when he does will be the reason for Stephen Strasburg's name not being in the lineup the Nats just released:

Strasburg was scheduled to start the first game of three with the Phillies tonight in the nation's capital and there was no word on any issue before the lineup above was sent out via the team's PR department's Twitter account. Davey Johnson has talked recently about Strasburg dealing with a hamstring issue, but as of 4:08 PM EDT this afternoon, there's no word if that is the cause of his late-ish scratch.

In the 25-year-old right-hander's last start in Marlins Park in Miami, the '09 no.1 overall pick gave up four hits, two walks and four earned runs in six innings pitched in a 6-4 win over the Marlins. Until the lineup was posted, Strasburg was scheduled to make his 29th start of the 2013 campaign. Instead, veteran right-hander Ross Ohlendorf is penciled in as the starter against the Phillies.

Strasburg missed time earlier this season when he was placed on the DL with a lat strain, but that was back in June and there's been no mention of any physical issue outside of the hamstring since then.

The Nationals are trying to win a season-high seventh straight game tonight as they've gone on a bit of run recently as they attempt to stay alive in the race for the second Wild Card spot. Any issue that causes Strasburg to miss time at this point would be a devastating blow.
