Ok, so I've enjoyed discoursing with y'all over the past few months. But now it's ABSOLUTELY time to get down to brass tacks and fix this team, that despite it's late season push needs a serious shot in the arm to make things happen next year.
As I have written before, Cano, even at $310m over 10 years (current going price, but what's that to the Lerner's anyways) makes sense on SO many levels. After seeing Denard bring it over the last month or so, my enthusiasm for Choo or Ellsbury has waned, but only in the slightest- either would be a serious upgrade on offense, where we need it most, and Span is well suited to be a #4 OF on a championship team but is NOT a championship team's leadoff hitter. We need a STUD at leadoff, it is the most important spot in the lineup statistically. We also and more desperately need depth, and I think the answer is in the past: bring back Michael Morse. He will be cheap after his crap year in Seattle, and Take On Me shall ring out again as he reminds the NL that he has incredible raw power. His best year may still he ahead of him, plus being a bench player should keep him health and hungry. Aside from praying for Cano, maybe springing for Ellsbury or Choo, and def resigning Morse...I don't know what else that Nats can do to help this offense that is reasonable. None of the FA are palatable aside from the three above, and while LaRoche HAS to go or be a bench player there's no easy answer to upgrade there (Zim for 1B, 2014!).
On the rotation side, Garza would be ideal. Get that #4. If not him...I don't think we can trust Haren again so let the carousel continue, and hope the one of the two Rosses is the other piece of the puzzle. In the pen, aign a lefty, and don't mess with Storen's head again. Oh, and lock up ZNN with the cash you don't spend here. And Desmond, both of them need to be locked up stat,.
