Nats Nightly: Nationals Beat Marlins 9-2 In Miami; Bryce Harper's Hip; Ryan Zimmerman's Power

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

On the latest edition of Nats Nightly, FBB's Doghouse called in to talk about the Nationals' 9-2 win over the Marlins; Ryan Zimmerman's power display and glove work; Bryce Harper's hip and Tanner Roark's first start in the majors. Check out the audio from the show below...

One day he's spiking throws 3/4s of the way to first and making people wonder if he can play third base anymore. The next he's making Jeter-ish jump, turn and throw plays from third base for improbable outs and hitting 400+ foot home runs and opposite field blasts. The people tasked with evaluating Ryan Zimmerman's 2013 campaign have a tough job ahead of them this winter. As we noted yesterday, FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal's talking like the decision to move Zimmerman across the diamond has already been made.

"He didn't have to tell me anything. He was on the ground out in the cage after he swung on a pitch." - Davey Johnson on Bryce Harper's hip

Then Zimmerman went out and hit two home runs, went 2 for 5 with 3 RBIs and showed off the sort of defensive skills those of us who've been watching him play since 2005 have come to expect from the now-28-year-old infielder in the Nationals' 9-2 win over the Marlins last night in Miami. The three runs Zimmerman drove in provided Nats' right-hander Tanner Roark with all the offense he would need to earn his fifth win of the season. Roark threw six scoreless and continued to make a case for a shot at one of the rotation spots next season. Ross Detwiler's supposed to start throwing. Taylor Jordan impressed while he was still pitching. Do the Nationals have enough pitching to fill out the back of their rotation next season? Is Roark for real?

What about Bryce Harper's hip? Harper was a late scratch from last night's game after he aggravated the hip injury that's been bothering him for the last week+. Now the 20-year-old outfielder's headed back to D.C. so team doctor, Dr. Wiemi Douoguih. Davey Johnson said he's hopeful Harper can join the team in New York after they finish the three-game set with the Marlins tomorrow afternoon...

We talked about all this and more on last night's edition of Nats Nightly. Listen to the entire show below:
