I went to Sunday's game against the Cubs. I hardly ever go to games so I splurged and bought myself and a friend two seats in the 100s. Me and my friend were super excited and yelling like crazy -- until the old couple in front of us turned around and asked us to "shut the f*** up." Then they went to the usher and complained to him. They literally tried to get us thrown out. The usher talked to us and we explained what was going on, that we weren't yelling anything personal, and he said everything's good but to keep it between "us and the field." Which is what we were doing.
Since then I have felt like utter crap. I go to a game to yell and support my team and I'm the bad guy? Yelling isn't acceptable in the 100s? If I want to yell I have to get nosebleed seats where the players can't hear me?
I admit I did not have much of interest to yell besides "You're the man Clippard!" and "Suh-wing battah!" I was trying to make up in volume what I lacked in creativity. But apparently I'm the jerk.
Am I a bad fan? And does anyone have suggestions for 21st century things to yell?
