MLB.com's Bill Ladson Weighs In On The Kearns' Situation...

1

In response to my post the other day entitled, "Will Austin Kearns Be In Right For DC In '09?" the estimable Doghouse wrote: "I voted no...(not to trade Kearns)…but only because I don’t think the Nats can get anything of value in an off-season trade, given AK’s poor season and high 09 contract. I say, roll the dice on recovery and see how he looks in spring." My response - "I agree...if they had traded Kearns last winter, they would have gotten a lot more in return, and I pretty much expect he’ll be in right next season with the Nationals’ brass saying that they couldn’t find a reasonable deal…" ...and today, MLB.com writer Bill Ladson fielded the same question in the most recent edition of his, "Mailbag: What is Kearns' future?", responding: "I think Kearns is going to stay with the Nationals, because I don't see another team taking on his $8 million contract. He also is coming off a tough year. "Whether Kearns plays every day will depend on who the Nationals acquire during the offseason." Can the Nationals trade for another outfielder with Kearns, Elijah Dukes, Lastings Milledge, Ryan Langerhans, Willie Harris (C'mon sign him!!) and Wily Mo Pena all in the running? Who could DC GM Jim Bowden get? No! Not Dunn...Please?

Nationals Fire Everyone On Coaching Staff Except Acta, St. Claire...

4

According to this Chico Harlan post at the Nationals Journal entitled, "Breaking News: All of Acta's Assistants Gone, Except St. Claire," the Nationals sort-of cleaned house today, letting Tim Tolman (3B), Jerry Morales (1B), Pat Corrales (Bench) and Rick Aponte (BP) go. Manager Manny Acta and Pitching Coach Randy St. Claire remain...No word on whether Acta will be choosing the replacements..."Teflon Randy" St.Claire, who survived the Expos/Nationals transition, makes the cut again...More News As It Surfaces... MLB.com's Bill Ladson's got the story too, in an article entitled, "Nationals dismiss five coaches". COMING SOON: THE SBN AWARDS... Tuesday Morning: A Federalbaseball.com Investigation...Can DC Sign A #1 Draft Pick?

SBF reminds us why we hate the Fillies...

...it's the fans. SBF has a long history of not liking Filly Fans, but the treatment he and his wife got at their park last night was downright ugly. Brotherly Love? More like, "Boorish A$$clowns."

Are the Nationals gonna miss out on the #1 overall pick because of a cancellation. According to the Press Release on the Nationals' official site, it's gonna be Balester tomorrow in Philly instead...More details to follow...

Federalbaseball.com In USA TODAY Sports Weekly... Earlier this week I conducted a quick email interview with USA TODAY sports writer Devin Clancy which appears in the September 10-16 2008 edition of USA TODAY Sports Weekly, (featuring Carolina Panthers Rookie Jonathan Stewart on the cover and now on newsstands). In Mr. Clancy's column entitled, "Bloggin' Baseball", I respond to four questions about federalbaseball.com in what Mr. Clancy describes as, "...a season-long series of Q&A's with bloggers who cover teams in the news."(Readable scan now in Comments section.)

Ronnie Belliard Injures Groin - Update - Belliard Done For Season?

+
(ed. note - "Link is to box score.") Ronnie Belliard pulls up while running out a high hopper to short, and Belliard's holding his groin as he crosses the bag safely. Kory Casto comes on to run. Ronnie Belliard heads into the clubhouse. Another injury? And according to Chico Harlan at the Washington Post's Nationals Journal blog in a post entitled, "Belliard likely done for season", in which Mr. Harlan writes simply: "As of tonight, it looks like Ronnie Belliard's right groin strain will end his season."
